State Historical Society
Job Description
Manage publishing activities of the State Historical Society of Missouri (SHSMO) including the Missouri Historical Review, Missouri Encyclopedia, and book projects. This role ensures scholarly excellence, stylistic consistency, and the successful production of historical media across print and digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide copyediting and proofreading for all SHSMO publications, including the Missouri Historical Review, Missouri Times magazine, the Missouri Encyclopedia, and the Historic Missourians website.
- Procure illustrations for the Missouri Historical Review, the Missouri Encyclopedia, and other SHSMO publications.
- Oversee production process for the Missouri Historical Review and other publications—from indexing and copyright application to contracting with printers, designers, and professional vendors.
- Attend sessions at the Missouri Conference on History, and other conferences to meet with history scholars, learn about their work, and recruit potential contributors to the Missouri Historical Review and other SHSMO publications.
- Other duties as assigned.
Shift
Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in History, English, Journalism, or a related field.
- Experience with academic publishing of scholarly journals and books.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe products.
- Excellent visual, writing, communication, and public speaking skills.
- Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of the history of Missouri and the Midwest.
- Demonstrated experience in applying The Chicago Manual of Style.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $27.95 - $31.50 per hour
