Description
BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports timely, effective internal communication and alignment across City departments. Fosters staff engagement and transparency through newsletters, executive messaging, and intranet content. Collaborates across teams to share updates, promote initiatives, and highlight achievements. Manages internal materials and supports events and recognition efforts. This in-person role strengthens organizational culture and contributes to the City's strategic communication goals. Performs other related functions as assigned.
Examples of Duties
Essential Functions
- Strategic Campaign Support — Assist in implementing strategic communications campaigns to promote City services, programs, projects, and events.
- Content Development — Work closely with the Communications Manager to draft and distribute content across the City’s intranet, website, social media channels, newsletters, and printed materials.
- Internal Communications — Manage and develop content for the FH Insider employee newsletter; edit press releases, flyers, pamphlets, and other materials to ensure consistency with brand standards and messaging.
- Research & Writing — Research materials, interview individuals, and gather information to compose articles, press releases, promotional pieces, reports, and newsletters.
- Digital Engagement — Support management of the City’s online presence by drafting social media posts for review and monitoring community feedback across digital platforms to help engage external audiences.
- Cross Department Collaboration — Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies as needed to support communication initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, English, public administration or a related field.
- Minimum four (4) years of experience in communications, journalism, marketing, or agency work.
- Strong understanding of social media strategy; proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and Canva or other graphic design software.
- Excellent verbal and writing, editing and messaging skills.
- Knowledge of graphic design principles preferred.
- Strong communication, customer service, and multi tasking abilities.
Skills & Abilities
Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. Graphic skills and related software knowledge are desirable.
Must have excellent telephone and customer service skills and great organizational skills. Must be able to multi-task and attend to details.

Start Date & Work Schedule
ASAP
Part-time, up to 30 hours per week on a schedule agreed upon by applicant and department director.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, sit, walk, talk, use hands and fingers; to handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; and to reach with hands and arms. The employee may lift and/or move objects up to 40 pounds.
