Position Overview
We are seeking a mid- to senior-level Communications professional for a high-impact contract role supporting our Internal and Executive Communications team. This role primarily focuses on partnering closely with executives and business leaders to develop strategic communications across a broad global stakeholder community.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional storyteller who can work independently, adapt their writing voice to various executives, and translate complex initiatives into compelling narratives. While we are targeting a pharmaceutical or Regulatory Affairs background, strong internal and executive communications experience within any large life sciences-related field would be valuable.
Requirements & Qualifications
Experience & Education
- Experience: Min 5–7+ years of internal and executive communications experience in a large, complex, matrixed organization.
- Prior experience in Pharmaceuticals, Healthcare, or Regulatory Affairs.
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in public relations, Integrated Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or an equivalent field is preferred. However, candidates with exceptional and relevant experience without a degree will also be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Executive Communications & Support: Provide strategic communications support to senior leadership. This includes drafting talking points, scripts, videos, awards submissions, and strategic messaging.
- Presentation Development & Storytelling: Create high-quality executive PowerPoint presentations from scratch (including storyboarding) and refine/strengthen messaging on content provided by business partners.
- Strategic Communication Planning: Lead the planning, development, and execution of communication strategies that align with organizational priorities and cross-functional culture goals.
- Content Creation & Distribution: Draft, edit, and distribute employee communications, including all-employee emails, newsletters, and enterprise-wide updates. Maintain the internal communications calendar.
- Stakeholder & Advisory Group Management: Support the employee advisory group by developing agendas, coordinating meetings, facilitating discussions, and preparing communication outputs for leadership.
- Newsletter Ownership (Optional): Depending on experience, take end-to-end ownership of the team’s monthly newsletter, including editorial review, content creation, and production.
- Change Communications: Apply change management principles to communication strategies to support employee understanding and adoption of organizational shifts and technology initiatives.
- Measurement & Feedback: Assess communication effectiveness, incorporate stakeholder insights, and continuously optimize messaging channels.
Technical & Core Skills
- Advanced PowerPoint Skills: Demonstrated ability to build executive narratives, storyboards, and visually compelling decks.
- Exceptional Writing & Editing: Ability to seamlessly shift writing style, tone, and voice to match different executives and diverse global audiences.
- Autonomy: Proven ability to manage projects independently and take direction from high-level, minimal briefs (e.g., direct email assignments).
- Global Acumen: Keen awareness of cultural nuances with the ability to influence multi-divisional and multi-functional teams globally.
Preferred (Nice-to-Have)
- Background in Journalism (highly valued for strong storytelling capabilities).
- Knowledge of Change Management principles.
- Experience managing end-to-end editorial and production processes for corporate newsletters.
Work Environment & Delivery Expectations
- Workload: The role typically focuses on one major executive communication initiative at a time alongside a small number of strategic projects, allowing a strong focus on high-quality delivery. Overnight turnarounds are rare and reserved only for critical situations.
- Support System: The contractor will have access to internal communication resources, design support, guidance, and presentation tools to successfully deliver high-quality materials.
