The Team
Jenner & Block’s Talent Department is seeking a creative, organized, and detailed-oriented team player to join our mission to recruit, retain, develop, and build lifelong professional relationships with our outstanding lawyers. The Role
The Talent Department Coordinator will play an essential part in building the approaches that support lawyers throughout their journeys at Jenner & Block—and extending throughout the entirety of their careers. The Coordinator will rotate annually across three teams within the larger Talent Department: Associate Recruiting, Professional Development, and Alumni Relations & Career Strategy (ARCS). The Talent Coordinator will, at various points throughout the year, support our associate recruiting efforts, assist with the daily coordination and facilitation of firmwide professional development programs, and assist with communications and data management for the ARCS team.
The ideal applicant will have an interest in building a strong workplace culture, investing in the development of our lawyers, and will also share in our commitment to making Jenner & Block a great place to grow as a professional.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Associate Recruiting (this will be focus from April-September)
- Assist in reviewing incoming entry-level and lateral candidate applications; helping to coordinate aspects of entry-level and lateral hiring, scheduling interviews with candidates and lawyers.
- Support our virtual campus interview program registrations and relationships with law school placement offices.
- Assist with student outreach activities and panels with firm lawyers.
- Support our Chicago summer associate program including orientation, activities, assignment tracking, supporting and attending summer associate programming, including evening events.
- Maintain the applicant tracking system and generate reports; field daily recruiting/legal personnel questions.
- Collaborate with various firm-wide teams (HR, Professional Development, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) on various projects including lawyer orientation, onboarding, and firmwide initiatives.
Professional Development (this will be focus, along with ARCS work, from October-March)
- Assist in managing program logistics, including coordinating and collaborating with lawyers, IT, AV, conference services, catering, and external vendors.
- Create and update program materials, including updating the Professional Development intranet page with program descriptions, dates, and materials.
- Assist in the development of Professional Development Newsletter, highlighting the unparalleled service and extensive program offerings the PD team provides to Jenner lawyers.
- Work collaboratively and seamlessly with the professional development team on ad hoc projects.
Alumni Relations & Career Strategy (ARCS) (this will be focus, along with Professional Development work, from October-March)
- Manage all aspects of internal and external career newsletters.
- Create external job postings database and regularly update same. Search and locate relevant job postings for database and upload to internal database.
- Research alumni and create pipeline for alumni profiles, assist in research and creation of alumni profiles; update and manage the alumni records in the InterAction database.
- Collaborate with Communications and marketing teams on key alumni communications.
- Assist with calendaring and managing events, including logistics, RSVPs, communications, gifts, follow-up. Some occasional evening hours are required for attendance at events and programs.
- Support career strategy coaches’ needs for resources and internal and external programs.
Qualifications
A professional with experience in managing administrative and programming efforts, and with an understanding of a law firm or professional services environment. Demonstrates the ability to deliver a high standard of work while maintaining a customer service focus.
- A four-year Bachelor’s degree is required, or equivalent work experience.
- 2 years prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment (law firm experience preferred).
- Superior interpersonal, written and communication skills, and the ability to interact effectively, professionally, courteously and confidently with candidates, partners, headhunters and all levels of firm personnel and staff.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaborate effectively within a team setting.
- Ability to multi-task and meet competing deadlines.
- Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality.
- Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word) and Adobe Acrobat; experience with VI Desktop/applicant tracking systems/SharePoint and/or ability to learn new software programs.
