The Boston Globe is seeking a collaborative and versatile newsletter producer to support the day-to-day production of a variety of high-priority newsletters across the newsroom. This is a critical role that will help shape the direction and future of the Globe's newsletters, which are a vital growth engine for our journalism that reaches millions of distinct readers.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who is adept at independently solving problems. They’ll manage multiple workflows at a time, so it’s important that they feel comfortable — and calm — in a fast-paced news environment. It requires coordinating across editorial and business teams to efficiently build and send newsletters.
The producer also needs to be a detail-oriented editor. They will often be the last set of eyes on our journalism before it reaches hundreds of thousands of readers, so we’re looking for someone with a strong penchant for accuracy and fact-checking.
The candidate will also feel comfortable analyzing audience data. They will be able to leverage these insights to enhance newsletter performance and identify new opportunities for our readers.
This person should understand where newsletters sit within the broader media ecosystem and will develop a vision for not only what newsletters mean to the Globe today but what they should mean for the Globe tomorrow.
This role sits within the audience team and reports to the newsletter editor.
Responsibilities:
- Own the end-to-end production of multiple newsletters, including formatting, testing, and performance across platforms
- Collaborate with the audience engagement team, newsletter authors, and editors to conceive topics, optimize workflows, and deploy newsletters
- Build and manage editorial calendars for the Globe’s portfolio of newsletters
- Write and edit for a variety of newsletters, producing clean, voicey copy that connects with our different audiences
- Champion newsletter best practices across the newsroom by teaching, educating, and instructing the Globe’s journalists.
Qualifications:
- Two-to-five years of journalism experience and a familiarity with newsletters
- A digital-first, audience-first mindset and enthusiasm for newsletters as a platform
- A dedication to details and a keen ability to catch mistakes
- Solid news judgment and comfort making editorial decisions independently
- An eagerness to shape the future of this digital space
Bonus Points If The Candidate…
- Has experience working in newsletter platforms (MailChimp, Sailthru, Salesforce, Beehiiv, etcetera)
- Understands basic HTML — or has even more coding experience
The job will be based in the Globe’s downtown Boston headquarters.
This position is a union position covered by a collective bargaining agreement with the Boston Newspaper Guild.
