The International Wood Products Association (IWPA) located in Alexandria, VA is looking for a full-time Coordinator of Policy & Marketing. The ideal candidate is a high-energy, creative thinker who can organize details, work collaboratively, and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced, small-office environment. While duties listed below are required for the role, there will be a great deal of flexibility for the individual to gain skills in other areas they are passionate about, and professional development is encouraged for every employee.
The Coordinator will report jointly to the Director of Government & Public Affairs and Manager of Membership, Marketing, and Operations. The Coordinator will spend approximately 60% of their time on Policy support work and 40% on marketing work. This position is ideal for an early-career professional with some association and/or Hill experience.
Policy duties include:
· Assist in scheduling, preparing for, and attending Congressional and Agency meetings. Individual will be required to register as a Lobbyist.
· Create and maintain listing of all membership locations tied to Congressional districts.
· Work with Director of Government Affairs to manage annual Fly-In.
· Assist with research projects on U.S. and international policy topics.
· Provide logistical support for all policy webinars and assist in the creation of weekly newsletter.
· Additional policy projects can be added based on interest.
Marketing duties include:
· Social Media: Create and maintain the IWPA Instagram page, maintain and grow the IWPA LinkedIn, Facebook, and X (pages.
· Assist International Wood magazine team with editing and other duties as assigned.
· Assist Manager of Membership with database maintenance.
· Additional marketing projects can be added based on interest.
Other duties include:
· Assist in day-to-day operations of a small office, including answering phones and ordering office supplies.
· Other duties as assigned.
Additional Information: Occasional travel required, including a week at the annual IWPA convention. IWPA is a small team, so this role has the capacity to grow within the organization and expand into other areas as desired by the individual. The association is international, so staff may very occasionally be asked to work outside of normal business hours for specific events; otherwise, staff is not expected to be reachable outside 9-5, as work-life balance is something IWPA takes seriously.
Salary & Benefits: The salary for this position is $40,000 - $45,000 depending on experience. IWPA has a hybrid workplace; candidates will be asked to be in the office for 5 days a week for the first 90 days, and then may choose to work remotely up to 3 days a week. Ideal candidates will have:
· A bachelor’s degree (can be expected May 2024)
· 1-3 years of experience in some of the job elements listed above.
· Strong writing skills.
· Exceptional organizational and systems building skills and attention to detail.
· A passion for supporting IWPA’s members and programs, and for promoting sustainable forestry.
Not required, but any of the following would provide preference to a candidate:
· Political (Hill, campaign or other) experience
· Social media management experience for an organization
· A second language
