The Operations & Communications Coordinator will be responsible for all communications, marketing, graphic design, and general operations of the New York Art Residency & Studios (NARS) Foundation programming. Please note that this is a full time, in person position.
The Operations & Communications Coordinator oversees day-to-day operations of the NARS offices in Sunset Park, Brooklyn and the creation of all communication and marketing materials for the Residency, Exhibition, Public and Education programs. The position entails a range of operational, administrative, and communicational responsibilities.
The Operations & Communications Coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director and Program Manager within the organization as the communications expert on a variety of strategic initiatives including graphic design for exhibitions, workshops, e-newsletter, social media, and website among others, and overseeing the general operations and administrative tasks related to the Residency Program, Exhibitions, Outreach Program and other events.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations
- Work alongside Program Manager and Founding Director in all programming & operations
- Oversee all facility operations: ordering supplies, maintaining facilities and keeping office organized
- Manage all move-ins and move-outs for Residency artists and oversee move-in and out procedures: restoring studio spaces, freight elevator usage, move-in and out scheduling for artists.
- Oversee volunteer and intern activities along with the Program Manager
- Work closely with the Program Manager to support the Residency Programs
- Act as the main contact with facility related questions from Residency Artists.
- Organize and assist in directing NARS’ bi-annual Open Studios, yearly Benefit, BID, and Fundraising events.
- Organize and assist with installation & de-installation during exhibitions.
- Update and maintain office calendars
Communications
- Facilitate, monitor, create and update all aspects of the website
- Produce content & maintain active presence on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram)
- Facilitate the production and distribution of all publicity and marketing materials.
- Respond field inquiries from the public: email/phone/in person
- Create all design material for NARS programs (Postcards, brochures, exhibition wall text, website, social media promotions, press material, NARS pamphlets)
JOB QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree required; Graphic Design, BFA, and/or Arts Administration.
- 3+ years experience in a non-profit or cultural organization
- Experience in communications, graphic design, web design and social media.
- Interest or knowledge of contemporary art, and working with international artists and partners.
- Previous experience in coordinating operations and administration in the past.
- Strategic thinker who identifies areas of weakness and opportunity and creates solutions.
- Effective communicator and writer for a broad audience, and comfortable working with diverse communities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks independently, take initiative, prioritize and execute duties in a timely manner.
- Experience with Microsoft Office; Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, familiarity with SquareSpace, MadMimi or Mailchimp, and basic HTML a plus.
- Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate programming and community events on some evenings and weekends
