The Minnesota State Lottery is seeking a motivated individual who is experienced and a dynamic individual to fill the role of the Public Affairs Strategist with the Minnesota State Lottery (MSL). This position will work to advance the MSL's image with stakeholders, including Minnesotans, players, staff, media, retail partners, Legislators and beneficiaries. They will be responsible for executing pro-active communications strategies, facilitating and advancing both internal and external communications activities, work closely with the Executive Director, Public Affairs Director, and other MSL leaders.
The Public Affairs Strategist is a member of the MSL Communications and Legislative Team, Content Creation Team, and Responsible Gambling Task Force Team.
Responsibilities include:
- Building relationships and increasing engagement among stakeholders.
- Developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating internal and external communication, as well as media and public relations strategies, to ensure that communication is cohesive, consistent, and effective in supporting the MSL’s mission, goals, objectives, and strategic direction.
- Providing support for strategic marketing campaigns.
- Fostering an inclusive work environment and positive culture through staff events and communication.
- Writing and editing a variety of internal and external communications, including web content, news releases social media posts and newsletter articles.
Minimum Qualifications
To facilitate proper crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job.
Three (3) years of experience in communications disseminating complex information and writing diverse communications for a variety of audiences. Experience must clearly demonstrate:
- Expertise in organizing and maintaining content.
- Strong writing and editing skills that include accessibility remediation, proper grammar and punctuation usage, accurate spelling, proofreading, and plain language skills.
- Experience in understanding of different approaches for writing for print, webpage, texting and social media.
- Expertise in planning, developing, and implementing effective communication strategies.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with a wide range of backgrounds, who do not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or other common experiences.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or Public Relations may substitute for one (1) year of experience***.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or a similar field.
- Knowledge of effective media relations strategies and media advocacy techniques and methods.
- Experience with public sector organizations and the gambling industry.
