Director of Marketing
Reports to the Chief Sales & Marketing Officer
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Marketing to lead our marketing efforts across various channels. Reporting directly to the Chief Sales & Marketing Officer, the Director of Marketing will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive digital marketing strategies to enhance our online presence, drive visitor and partner engagement, and ultimately increase bookings and revenue for our hotel partners and community.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in digital marketing within the travel and tourism industry and a proven track record of success in managing multi-channel campaigns, as well as leading high performing teams.
Essential Functions
Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited, to the following:
• Develop and execute the overall digital marketing strategy in alignment with our objectives, focusing on website optimization, PR, social media, communications, and partner marketing.
• Lead and manage Communications Manager as well as administrative staff providing guidance, support, and mentorship. As the organization grows, additional direct reports may be added.
• Oversee the Communication Manager’s scope of Newsletter production (visitor, partner, group planner and CEO letters) ensuring that the content is well planned out, relevant, and of high quality. This includes ensuring proper planning with relevant stakeholders and the establishment of a robust content calendar.
• Oversee the ongoing maintenance and optimization of our website, ensuring it is user-friendly, optimized for search engines (SEO), and effectively showcases our partners, experiences, and destination. Maintain content and ensure that all creative and copy is on-brand, relevant to our visitors and optimized for partner referral conversion. Continuously auditing the website for usability, flow, and possible errors (dated content, broken links, correct offers etc.).
• Manage public relations activities with our PR agency, including media relations, press releases, and influencer partnerships, to enhance brand visibility and reputation.
• Drive social media strategy and content creation across various platforms, fostering engagement with our target audience and increasing brand awareness. Oversee paid social media strategy, including relationships and budget for social influencers.
• Collaborate with the Sales Team to ensure that all Marketing efforts are supporting our annual sales goals, including providing Marketing support for trade shows and conferences.
• Develop and manage strategic digital partnerships with other travel-related businesses (Expedia, TripAdvisor etc.), leveraging co-marketing opportunities to expand our reach and acquire new customers.
• Oversee Strategic Partnerships and Sponsorships, including Partnership Marketing, securing corporate sponsorships for a number of community and partner events.
• Oversee events, including mixers, media fam tours, annual meeting and specialevents.
• Analyze key performance metrics and provide regular reporting on the effectiveness of digital marketing initiatives, making data-driven recommendations for optimization and improvement. Provide monthly Marketing reports highlighting wins and opportunities (in partnership with Media agency and Simpleview).
• Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in travel related digital marketing and DMOs, continuously seeking opportunities for innovation and growth. Report and share insights with all stakeholders via reports, DOS forums, newsletters and more.
• Demonstrate the ability to "roll one's sleeves up" and actively contribute to the execution of marketing campaigns and initiatives when necessary, leading by example and inspiring a culture of action and accountability within the team.
Secondary Functions:
- Represent The SFP, as needed, at various local or national events and tradeshows.
- Assist with other tasks as needed from time to time which advance the mission of The SFP.
Qualifications
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in digital marketing, with at least three years in a leadership (or team manager) role.
• Proven track record of success in developing and implementing digital marketing strategies, preferably within the travel and tourism or hospitality industry.
• Strong understanding of website CMS and analytics tools, social media platforms, and digital advertising channels. SimpleView, Google Analytics and Sprout Social experience a plus.
• Partnership Marketing experience preferred but not required.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team and both internal and external collaborators.
• A strategic thinker with a creative mindset and the ability to drive rapid results – someone who is not afraid to “roll up their sleeves” and execute while also driving strategy.
• Proficiency in data analysis and reporting, with the ability to translate insights into actionable strategies. An experienced storyteller who can find the “story in the data” and put forth action plans accordingly.
• Experience managing external agencies and vendors is required.
• Passion for travel and a commitment to delivering exceptional visitor and partner
experiences.
• Must be willing to travel 2-3 times per year.
The Director of Marketing is an exempt at-will employee of The San Francisco Peninsula (SFP) according to the fair labor standards act.
The normal and customary business hours are Monday through Thursday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm; Friday 8:30 am to 4:00 pm and on occasion, when necessary, evenings and weekend work may be required. This hybrid role is in-office between Tuesday-Thursday, with remote work on Mondays and Fridays.
