How You’ll Make An Impact
As Editorial Content Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping advance the goals of USGBC. In this role, you will be responsible for the content strategy and editorial direction of both the usgbc.org online articles platform and the USGBC+ online magazine. This position develops strategy for aligned content across platforms to support USGBC priorities and goals; writes and edits content from a variety of internal and external contributors; manages freelance writers/editors; maintains the communications department’s editorial calendar; assists with employee and executive communications; and supports the promotion of content in collaboration with the marketing and communications team.
You’ll report to the Director of Global Corporate Communications and be part of a cross-functional team environment where your contributions will help shape impactful outcomes. You’ll work closely with teams such as Product Management, Product Marketing, Market Transformation & Development, Membership, Education & Events, and Advocacy & Policy, and you may regularly partner with USGBC members, regional colleagues, and LEED Fellows globally to gather insights and deliver high-impact programs.
Key Responsibilities
USGBC+ digital magazine
- Serve as lead editor of the USGBC+ digital magazine. Write, edit, and publish content on the platform. Source photos and graphics.
- Grow content strategy and launch new features in alignment with USGBC goals.
- Manage the editorial calendar, ensuring on-time delivery of content.
- Source and assign content that enhances USGBC’s voice and authority in the industry.
- Promote in-depth coverage of the value of membership and products such as LEED , TRUE Zero Waste , SITES and others.
- Manage content development work by freelancers and internal writers.

- Define and hone content marketing strategy for each distinct usgbc.org audience.
- Direct the USGBC priority topics editorial strategy, including working with numerous LEED Fellows. Develop high-quality thought leadership content and content that highlights customer projects.
- Write and edit articles contributed by internal and external authors, ensuring that content aligns with USGBC priorities and campaigns.
- Optimize campaign content and strategy based on readership metrics.
- Manage the schedule and publication of online articles.
Employee and executive communications
- Serve as editor and publisher of the monthly employee/staff newsletter.
- Assist with the development of executive communications content, as needed.
Experience
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5 to 7 years of experience in writing, editing, communications, marketing, publications, project management, digital and content strategy, or related areas.
- Experience managing publications workflow and working with multiple stakeholders.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
Skills
- Excellent skills in English grammar, style, and communications.
- Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) style.
- Knowledge of web publishing software.
- Ability to quickly incorporate specialized industry terms and in-house styles.
- Ability to use data and analytics to inform and adjust content strategy.
- Creative thinking combined with strict attention to detail.
- Curiosity and flexibility to ask the questions and make the pivots that enable successful communications content.
- Seamless integration of organizational messaging into various types of content pieces.
- Focus on the customer’s journey, needs, and categories/personas into which they fit.

Salary
Final compensation and benefits will be confirmed at the time of offer and may vary based on factors such as internal equity, relevant experience, qualifications, and employment status. Please note that salary negotiations will not extend beyond the top of the internal salary range.

LOGISTICS
Location: This position can be based in Washington, DC, or remote.
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Eastern Time
Travel %: 5% to engage with local clients and attend industry events
