Brief Description
Competitive triathletes and passionate bakers, Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald left their careers to open a small bread shop in New York City in 1995 — Levain Bakery.
One day, they baked a BIG chocolate chip walnut cookie as energy for triathlon training. At Levain, a batch of these 6-ounce cookies flew off the shelves, and an icon was born. The cozy shop on West 74th Street became a neighborhood favorite and a destination for epicurious visitors from around the world, hungry for “the cookie.”
From the start, Pam, Connie, and the team baked everything fresh on-site each day, donating the day’s leftovers to charity — and we still do, nearly 30 years later. Today, Levain has bakeries across the country (with more to come!), plus ecommerce gift boxes to treat cookie lovers in every state.
Our Vision: To give rise to lifelong memories
Our Mission: To bring together people who treat their work and the craft of baking and all who come to visit with great care.
Every day, we strive to embody our company’s five core values:
- Welcome All- We are all in it together
- Work Hard and Be Kind- We pull our weight, we do our best, and take care of each other
- Lead with Heart- We operate with empathy and integrity
- Rise Up- We take initiative to make things better
- Savor It- We are present and find the fun!
THE ROLE: CRM SPECIALIST
Reports to: Senior Manager, Growth Marketing
Location: New York City
The CRM Specialist is the day-to-day executional engine behind Levain’s owned marketing channels. You’ll build, QA, and ship every email and SMS campaign we send — across DTC, Corporate, Catering, and our Cookie Club subscription program — and you’ll keep our lifecycle automations healthy and performing.
Why this role matters: CRM at Levain sits in a small, high-visibility growth function that reports directly to our CEO/CCO. There’s no layer of process between your work and the people making decisions — what you build ships fast, and its results are seen at the top of the company. If you want scope and ownership earlier than a large brand would give you, this is that seat.
What You’ll Own
Campaign Production & QA
- Build and deploy email and SMS campaigns end to end in Klaviyo: audience and segment setup, links and UTMs, render and device testing, scheduling, and pre-send QA
- Maintain the CRM marketing calendar, traffic creative requests with our design partners, and hold timelines across content, ecommerce, and web
- Turn strategic direction into written campaign briefs, and draft copy for recurring and evergreen sends within our established brand voice
- Support campaign production across all sales verticals — DTC, Corporate, Catering, Retail, and Subscription (Levain Cookie Club)
Lifecycle Flows & Program Hygiene
- Keep our automated flows healthy: monitor performance, catch broken merge tags, dead links, feed issues, and segment drift before customers do
- Build and maintain segments and support ongoing list health work
Reporting, Testing & Analysis
- Own recurring CRM reporting across email and SMS — weekly and monthly pulls, dashboard upkeep, and flagging performance shifts and anomalies as they happen
- Execute a defined A/B testing roadmap (subject lines, offers, send timing, creative), and grow into proposing your own hypotheses
- Contribute to analysis on engagement, conversion, retention, winback, and overall lifecycle performance.
Campaign Execution & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Serve as the day-to-day owner of CRM marketing initiatives, partnering cross-functionally across content, design, copy, development, customer engagement, operations, and web teams.
- Manage the CRM marketing calendar, including campaign briefing, deployment, production, and QA, ensuring timely and high-quality execution.
Requirements
- Minimum 1-2 years hands-on email and/or SMS marketing experience at a direct-to-consumer brand
- Demonstrated experience shipping campaigns end to end — brief through build, QA, deployment, and post-send reporting
- Ability to build audiences and segments from a brief without a technical spec
- Comfort with reporting and analysis: pulling numbers, spotting what changed, and explaining it clearly
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
Preferred
- Klaviyo experience strongly preferred; hands-on experience in another enterprise ESP (Braze, Iterable, Attentive, Bluecore, Salesforce Marketing Cloud) transfers well
- Food, gifting, or multi-channel (retail + ecommerce) brand experience
- Shopify familiarity
- Working knowledge of SMS marketing compliance (quiet hours, consent, TCPA/CTIA basics)
- Copywriting experience
- Loyalty and referral program experience
- Basic HTML, Google Analytics, and Excel/Sheets proficiency
Compensation & Benefits
- $70k–$80k + 10% annual bonus potential
- Health, Vision, Dental Insurance
