Company Description The National Willa Cather Center, home of the Willa Cather Foundation, is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing the legacy of renowned American author Willa Cather through education, historic preservation, and the arts. Located in Red Cloud, Nebraska, the Center offers tours of historic sites connected to Cather’s life and work, providing visitors with immersive literary and cultural experiences. It hosts an annual Spring Conference in Red Cloud, along with arts performances, humanities presentations, and gallery exhibits in the restored 1885 Red Cloud Opera House. The organization also organizes symposiums, international seminars, and workshops focused on Cather’s works across Nebraska and around the world, engaging scholars, students, and the public in ongoing dialogue about her contributions to American literature.
Role Description The Marketing and Communications Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Red Cloud, NE. This position is responsible for developing and executing marketing and communications strategies that promote the Center’s programs, events, and mission to diverse audiences. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating and managing content for digital channels and print materials, overseeing social media and email campaigns, updating the website, and coordinating press releases and media outreach. The Manager will collaborate with staff to support program promotion, visitor engagement, and fundraising initiatives, while ensuring consistent branding and messaging across all platforms. The role also involves monitoring campaign performance, analyzing audience data, and recommending improvements to enhance public awareness and participation.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated skills in marketing strategy, campaign planning, and brand management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including copywriting and storytelling for diverse audiences.
- Experience with digital marketing tools, including social media management, email marketing platforms, and basic web content management.
- Ability to produce and edit marketing and communications materials, such as newsletters, press releases, and promotional collateral.
- Competence in data analysis and reporting to evaluate marketing effectiveness and audience engagement.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Interest in literature, the humanities, arts, or cultural institutions; familiarity with Willa Cather’s work is a plus.
- Comfort working in a small, mission-driven organization and engaging with visitors, community members, and partners on-site.
