Haymarket Media, Inc. is seeking a Senior Editor to join its Medical Communications Group and lead content production for websites within the immunology vertical of our Advisor brands. The Senior Editor will be responsible for overseeing the development of timely news and in-depth reporting for our digital platforms, which are focused on clinical research and practice. This position is located in our New York, NY office on a hybrid work schedule; three (3) days in office depending on business needs.
Job Overview:
The Senior Editor will oversee the creation, optimization, and distribution of high quality, accurate, and engaging multi-format clinical content for an audience of health care providers within the immunology space (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and others). The ideal candidate has familiarity with scientific literature, clinical research methodologies, and medical statistics, with the ability to critically evaluate research findings and produce medical content across multiple formats, including news briefs and long-form feature articles, live conference coverage, slideshows, polls, videos, quizzes, and podcasts. They will also be responsible for monitoring audience engagement and content performance, leveraging AI, article metrics and data trends to streamline and inform content strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Leveraging AI tools to help create and distribute health care content in an array of formats, including, print, video, and audio
- Providing on-site and remote live coverage of research presented at major medical conferences, producing timely digital offerings such as research summaries, video interviews, and take-home video points for social media
- Developing and maintaining key relationships with opinion leaders in the therapeutic space, through interview outreach and on-site coverage of medical conferences
- Sourcing AI fact checkers to assist ensure medical accuracy, appropriate sourcing and references, and adherence to AMA and house style
- Managing and leading a team of freelance medical journalists to author breaking news and feature content
- Posting articles to WordPress and adhering to publication deadlines
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure content is SEO-optimized and available for daily email newsletters and sponsored product newsletters
- Overseeing and maintaining a monthly editorial budget
Skills and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in English/Journalism/Communications or Biological Sciences; advanced degree and clinical experience desirable
- 3+ years’ experience in medical publishing/communications/advertising, with excellent ability to edit and fact check medical content, including proficiency with AMA style
- Proficient at maintaining a robust volume of content for a daily publishing schedule
- Excellent reading comprehension, listening and analytical skills, and oral and written communication skills
- A successful record of handling multiple projects with overlapping deadlines
- Experience as a strong team player who can work independently and cross-functionally within an organization and follow through on all assigned tasks
- Knowledge of SEO best practices, social media, and other digital promotional strategies
- Understanding of the needs of a highly specialized medical professional audience
- Previous experience covering continuing medical education conferences, including producing onsite print and digital offerings
