About Brass Check
Brass Check is the media company behind Daily Stoic and Daily Dad, two of the largest philosophy and personal development media brands in the world.
Across email, books, podcasts, YouTube, social media, courses, and more, our work reaches more than 5 million people. Our goal is simple: take timeless ideas and turn them into practical, useful content that helps people live better lives.
Email is at the center of what we do. Every day, hundreds of thousands of readers open emails from Daily Stoic, Daily Dad, and Ryan Holiday. We’re looking for an exceptional editor to help make those emails as thoughtful, sharp, useful, and engaging as possible.
The Role
We’re looking for a full-time Email Editor / Editor-in-Chief to join our team in Bastrop, Texas.
This person will take ownership of the editorial quality and execution of our email operation across Daily Stoic, Daily Dad, and Ryan Holiday.
You’ll work closely with Ryan Holiday, our Head of Content, Managing Editor, writers, and marketing team to edit daily emails, manage the publishing calendar, improve automated email sequences, and help execute launches and promotional campaigns.
This is not simply a proofreading position. We’re looking for someone with strong editorial judgment - someone who can take a good draft and make it great, recognize when an idea isn’t working, protect the voice of each brand, and ensure that everything we publish earns the reader’s attention.
What You’ll Do
Own Our Daily Emails
- Edit Daily Stoic, Daily Dad, and Ryan Holiday emails for clarity, structure, voice, accuracy, and impact
- Work with writers and editors to strengthen ideas, openings, arguments, transitions, and endings
- Format, schedule, test, and publish emails in Kit/ConvertKit
- Manage the weekly and monthly editorial calendar
- Coordinate with the team to ensure emails are written, edited, approved, and scheduled on time
- Publish selected emails and articles to DailyStoic.com and DailyDad.com
Maintain Editorial Standards
- Serve as a final editorial quality check across emails, courses, website copy, and other written content
- Maintain a consistent voice and standard across Daily Stoic, Daily Dad, and Ryan Holiday
- Catch factual errors, awkward writing, repetition, weak arguments, and inconsistencies before they reach readers
- Develop and maintain editorial guidelines and systems that make the entire team better
Improve Our Email Ecosystem
- Review and improve existing automated email sequences
- Build and maintain onboarding, evergreen, educational, and promotional flows
- Identify outdated or underperforming emails and develop stronger replacements
- Help us continually improve what subscribers receive from the moment they join one of our lists
Support Launches & Campaigns
- Work with the broader team on campaigns for books, courses, products, events, and other launches
- Help develop campaign concepts, angles, subject lines, and email sequences
- Coordinate email campaigns with podcast, YouTube, social, and other channels
- Build and manage subscriber segments for targeted campaigns
Who We’re Looking For
You are an unusually strong reader, writer, and editor.
You’re also highly organized. Publishing multiple emails to millions of readers every week requires both creativity and operational discipline.
You’ll likely be a strong fit if you:
- Have exceptional writing and editing skills
- Have excellent editorial judgment and a strong sense of what makes writing interesting
- Can preserve someone else’s voice rather than rewriting everything in your own
- Are comfortable giving direct, thoughtful editorial feedback
- Are extremely detail-oriented
- Can manage multiple deadlines and publishing calendars without things falling through the cracks
- Understand email as both an editorial medium and a business channel
- Have experience with Kit/ConvertKit or another major email platform
- Are interested in philosophy, history, books, personal development, parenting, or the kinds of ideas Daily Stoic and Daily Dad explore
- Read widely and are naturally curious
Experience in publishing, journalism, newsletters, media, or direct-response email is helpful, but excellent judgment and writing ability matter more to us than a particular résumé.
What Success Looks Like
You’ll know you’re doing the job well when:
- Every email we send feels polished and worth opening
- Our publishing schedule runs smoothly and reliably
- Writers receive useful feedback that improves their work
- The voice of each brand remains distinct and consistent
- Our automated sequences get better instead of slowly becoming outdated
- Launches are organized well in advance rather than assembled at the last minute
- Readers trust that an email from us will be worth their time
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Health insurance
- 401(k) with company matching
- Paid time off
- The opportunity to work directly with a small, experienced media team
- Significant responsibility and ownership over publications reaching millions of people
- A chance to help shape the editorial direction of Daily Stoic and Daily Dad
