The Role
Horizon Engage is seeking an energetic, efficient Editor to help maintain and expand our stakeholder intelligence product. Working closely with our team of analysts, you will be responsible for line and content editing of client-facing deliverables, ensuring our analysis is clear, well-structured and consistent in style and tone before it reaches clients.
This is a hands-on role well suited to someone who enjoys close collaboration with subject-matter experts, has an exacting eye for language and logic, and is comfortable moving between detailed line edits and bigger-picture questions of structure and argument. The role also includes light photo editing to support the visual presentation of our products.
Key Responsibilities
- Line and content editing: Edit analyst-written content for clarity, structure, logic, grammar and tone, ensuring each piece reads smoothly and makes its argument effectively for a senior, time-pressed audience.
- Analyst collaboration: Work closely with analysts throughout the drafting process, providing constructive feedback and guidance to strengthen their writing over time, including for colleagues writing in a second language.
- House style and consistency: Maintain and enforce Horizon Engage’s house style (AP style-based), ensuring consistency of terminology, formatting and tone across the stakeholder intelligence product.
- Production and quality control: Conduct final quality checks on deliverables prior to publication or client delivery, catching factual inconsistencies, formatting errors and stylistic issues.
- Photo editing: Perform light photo editing and selection to support the visual presentation of reports and other client-facing materials.
- Process improvement: Help refine editorial guidelines, templates and workflows as the product and team continue to grow.
Candidate Profile
- Experience: 2–5 years of professional editing, rewriting or research-writing experience (newsroom, think tank, consultancy or similar), preferably in political risk, geopolitics, intelligence or government affairs.
- Editing skills: Excellent copy-editing skills and a sharp eye for structure, logic and tone. Able to handle copy written by non-native English speakers, and familiar with AP style.
- Sector knowledge: Energy sector experience is a strong plus.
- Judgment and collaboration: Comfortable giving direct, constructive feedback to analysts while maintaining strong working relationships, and confident exercising independent editorial judgment under deadline pressure.
- Attention to detail: Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple deliverables and deadlines simultaneously without sacrificing accuracy.
- Education: Minimum bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. journalism, political science, international relations, or a related discipline).
- Location: Based in New York City; this is a hybrid role requiring regular in-office presence.
