Rothe is seeking a Technical Communications Specialist to provide support to the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), Agency Business Solutions (ABS) Program Communications Support at NASA HQ for the NASA Enterprise Multimedia and Integrated Technical Services (eMITS) contract. eMITS is the Agency’s enterprise-level contract creating and delivering multimedia and technical communications through the use of the internet, digital platforms, and IT management for NASA’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and Office of Communications (OCOMM). From photographing rocket launches and recoveries, to producing engaging videos, to information technology management, to using social media to share NASA’s message, eMITS integrates services for NASA IT and provides NASA’s communication to the outside world. Job Description:
The Public Affairs Writer crafts clear, accessible stories, photo captions, internal and external broadcast scripts, and social media content for NASA platforms. They research topics, interview subject matter experts, organize material and imagery, and write to Agency standards following AP style and NASA guidelines. The role also supports launch coverage, collaborates with expert teams to develop and refine content, and ensures all products are reviewed and approved before publication.
Functional Responsibilities:
This position will include but not be limited to the following activities:
- Perform writing and digital content creation using Microsoft applications such as Word, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams and Adobe Creative Cloud products.
- Use strong writing and editorial skills to translate complex technical information into clear, accessible language. Apply editorial judgment to strategically develop messages and tailor content for technical, leadership, employee, public, and stakeholder audiences.
- Support the development and delivery of communications and content for Kennedy Space Center and other NASA centers, programs, and mission activities, as directed and within the scope of the contract. Collaborate across centers to support agency communications requirements and provide consistent, timely, and mission-focused content.
- Develop content for internal communications, including employee announcements, leadership messages, organizational updates, newsletters, digital signage, intranet content, presentations, and mission-focused communications.
- Develop and execute social media content and communications across appropriate platforms, including posts, captions, campaign messaging, and supporting multimedia content designed to inform and engage audiences.
- Coordinate with multimedia, photography, video, graphics, and production teams to develop integrated communications products combining written, visual, and digital storytelling in support of NASA missions and programs.
- Support social media planning and content calendars, including identification of key events, milestones, mission activities, and opportunities for timely audience engagement.
- Ensure communications maintain consistent messaging, branding, tone, editorial standards, and organizational objectives across internal, external, social, and digital channels.
- Monitor communications and social media engagement to help identify audience needs, emerging issues, content opportunities, and communications effectiveness.
- Coordinate communications with program leadership, subject-matter experts, stakeholders, NASA center communications teams, and other authorized partners to ensure information is accurate, timely, appropriately reviewed, and aligned with organizational and contractual requirements.
Remote, hybrid, and onsite positions; the employee bears travel costs to nearest NASA Center for badging and issue of NASA IT equipment.
Education and Experience:
Minimum Education: BA/BS
Minimum Experience: 8 years overall experience
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneNote, One Drive), Visio, and SharePoint and Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop) willing and able to learn governmental processes along with being a self-starter with the ability to learn new things. Experience with editing and converting technical communications to plain language to ensure the widest possible understanding for the Agency/Organization. Must have experience developing communications and presentations for executive-level leadership using PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working as a communications professional within a highly technical organization
