Communications Specialist
The Arkansas Medical Society (AMS) is looking for a strong writer with an eye for design to help physicians stay informed, connect with colleagues, and take part in the work of their Society. You will work with physicians across Arkansas, tell their stories, and make complex issues understandable to the people who need to know about them.
AMS supports physicians and their patients through advocacy, education, and member services. Your work will make those resources easier to find and use, and help members, policymakers, partners, and the public understand issues affecting physicians and patient care.
You might interview a physician for the Journal, build a campaign for a regional meeting, or edit a short video about an issue affecting medical practices and patient care. You will bring ideas, do the writing and design, and see the work through to publication. This position manages communications projects and publications and has no direct reports. The Executive Director sets strategy and priorities, and you will work with colleagues and physician leaders to develop accurate, useful content.
What you will create
- Produce the Journal and ChartNotes, gathering stories, editing contributions, and managing production through proofing and publication.
- Develop membership and event campaigns that explain the value of membership and participation and make it easy to get involved.
- Produce email campaigns, publish website updates, and create social media content, including physician stories, useful resources, and approved advocacy messages.
- Create graphics, print materials, and short videos that fit the audience and purpose.
- Prepare communications for the medical specialty societies AMS serves and make sure promised sponsor recognition and advertising are published.
The Ideal Candidate
You write clearly, edit carefully, and can produce finished graphics and layouts. You are familiar with planning, capturing, editing, and sharing short videos. You know that a message for physicians may need a different approach than one for policymakers or the public. Your work should sound natural, respect the audience, and get the facts right.
You consider measuring impact as a part of the job. You will track email clicks, video engagement, registrations, and audience responses, report what they tell us, and use those findings to improve the next effort. You also take professional pride in your ability to manage deadlines, follow up with contributors, and check the details before publishing.
You hold a bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant communications or editorial experience. You have strong writing, editing, routine graphic design, email production, website publishing, and social content production capabilities. Completed work should demonstrate accuracy, judgment, and deadline management. Medical or professional-association experience is preferred.
