Newsletter Producer (Contract-Based)
About The Slowdown
Founded in 2019, The Slowdown is a culture-forward media company built on the belief that the greatest luxury is time. A collective of editors, writers, photographers, filmmakers, producers, creative directors, and strategists, we craft stories with simplicity, clarity, and beauty. The company produces the long-form interview podcast Time Sensitive and publishes a semiregular newsletter that reaches 15,000+ subscribers. We also host intimate talks and events, and collaborate with select mission-aligned companies to provide editorial direction, curation, and production across media—from books and publications to film and audio.
Job Description
Location: New York, NY or Remote
The Slowdown is seeking a trusted newsletter producer to support our editorial team with coordinating, building, and shipping our flagship newsletter. In this contract-based role, you’ll work closely with our editorial team to prepare and build upcoming issues (between two to three per month), both between and during bi-annual seasons of our Time Sensitive podcast.
We’re seeking a reliable, highly organized, and detail-oriented collaborator to play an invaluable role in supporting our editorial workflow and ensuring a seamless production process, from first-pass edits to final publication.
Candidates with experience in digital media and publishing, and a demonstrated ability to consistently support high-quality work under deadline, will be prioritized. An interest in the fields of art, architecture, culture, design, and travel is a plus.
You’ll need to be able to work autonomously while coordinating and collaborating closely with our editorial and production team.
This position is a contract-based remote role. Each issue requires roughly six to eight hours of work, with timing expectations and publication dates set in advance. While New York City–based candidates are preferred, we will also consider candidates based elsewhere in the United States. Note this role will require working on ET hours.
Start Date: Onboarding week of Dec. 7, with official start date in early Jan. 2027
Project Term: 12-month commitment, with opportunity to continue beyond that period
Responsibilities:
- Support the editorial workflow for The Slowdown’s flagship newsletter, including building, circulating tests, making final edits, and scheduling newsletters in Mailchimp; coordinating proofs with our copy editor; and publishing newsletters to our slowdown.media website archive and LinkTree no later than Sunday at 12 p.m. ET following Saturday morning publication.
- Create image graphics in Canva using existing templates. Note: Some light photo editing/cropping experience is helpful.
- (As needed) Coordinate requests for advance copies of books, images, and other press materials and file materials in Dropbox.
- (As needed) Support on research and fact-checking requests with guidance from Senior Editor.
- (Rolling basis) Support with maintaining and adding to our quarterly cultural calendar to inform editorial meetings and line-up planning.
- (Rolling basis) Contribute ideas for our “Five Links” section, our handpicked guide to culture across the internet, with a focus on showcasing the work of our Time Sensitive guests.
Qualifications
- At least 2–3 years of experience as a newsletter producer or similar editorial production role at a fast-paced digital media or news operation, podcast company, magazine, or book publisher
- College degree in English, journalism, or other relevant subject preferred
- Knowledge of and/or enthusiasm for The Slowdown and our voice/ethos
- Passion for media, podcasts, magazines, newsletters, book publishing, art, architecture, culture, design, and travel
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to oversee multiple platforms and tasks at once
- Highly collaborative and skilled at working with writers, copy editors, and fact-checkers
- Superb communication, time management, and interpersonal skills (especially while on deadline)
- Solution oriented and willingness to learn
- Previous experience in Mailchimp, Google Docs, and Canva is a must; knowledge of Sanity is a bonus, but not required (included in training)
