SLM Media Group—the locally owned and operated publisher of a suite of newsletters, podcasts, St. Louis Magazine, stlmag.com, and events—is looking for a highly motivated, talented Business Editor. The ideal candidate should have a passion for providing relevant content across platforms for local business leaders and entrepreneurs. This role requires excellent communication skills, creative problem-solving, and seamless collaboration.

Responsibilities

Help develop and oversee St. Louis-focused business content across platforms, including the daily Business newsletter, the BizSTL podcast, and a special Business print edition highlighting local business leaders to know, as well as helping develop other business-related products and engagement through partnerships, events, and other opportunities.
Generate story ideas and leverage vertical expertise, keyword research, and reader feedback.
Stay informed of important topics, events, and trends, often curating business-related content for St. Louis business leaders and entrepreneurs.
Help identify key industry storylines, monitor vertical developments, and work with the team to plan coverage.
Plan, report, write, edit, and proofread a range of articles across platforms.
Work collaboratively with reporters and writers to cover a range of topic areas across platforms
Track analytics to gauge what stories are resonating with readers and provide data-driven insights for content direction.
Represent the business vertical in the community, including through event attendance and possible media appearances.
Other duties as required.

Qualifications

At least 3–5 years of related writing, reporting, and/or editing experience.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Ability to build relationships with sources and grasp complex subjects.
Podcast and public speaking experience.
Collaborative, with experience working across teams.
Demonstrated knowledge of digital and social media landscape.
Strong project management skills.
Strong editing, reporting and writing skills.
A bachelor’s degree or higher in journalism, English, business, or a related field.
Growth mindset and a positive attitude.
