Communications Coordinator/NYC

GRADE: E

PAY RANGE: $5,876 – 8,814 per month

BASIC FUNCTION:

Provide support and backup for VP Public Relations for expanded media relations outreach, press coverage, major launches, crisis management, events.

MAJOR DUTIES:

· Support proactive expansion of in-house relationships with target press

· Execute one-on-one proactive media contact (query response, story placement)

· Respond to incoming media queries in coordination with head office Public Affairs, local agency, etc.

· Research, write, edit core press materials to support coverage

· Development of internal communications vehicles (monthly regional newsletter, other platforms as developed)

· Act as an ‘internal journalist’: proactive story ‘mining’ to identify publicity opportunities within the SIA network

· Support relationship management with key product partners (Sustainability, Farm To Plane, Wellness, etc.)

· Collateral material development (photo, video)

· Ongoing project mapping/tracking of key department initiatives

· Additional related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

· Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism or related field

· 2-3 years’ experience at an agency, news organization or in-house PR department

· Outstanding oral, written and presentations skills, including proficiency in AP Style guidelines

· Digital proficiency (MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)

· Social media fluency

· Understanding of the news gathering/reporting process
