WyoFile serves Wyoming’s civic life with community-supported, nonpartisan, public-interest journalism. To support that mission, we’re looking for a general assignment reporter with public safety and justice system reporting experience. What you’ll do:

Copy edit WyoFile stories, columns, partner articles and republications
Manage and execute all aspects of daily newsroom story production, publication, promotion and distribution including:
Laying out stories and newsletters while helping to develop additional newsletter products
Coordinating multiple reporters and editors through simultaneous, multi-step production processes to maximize efficiency and minimize bottlenecks (i.e. keep the trains running on time)
Help refine and continually improve WyoFile’s systems
Assist with social media posts.

What you’ll need to succeed:

A magazine writer’s sense of narrative, a newspaper reporter’s sense of urgency and a nose for a good story. Knowledge of AP style.
Unimpeachable professional integrity, reliable sense of fairness and dogged commitment to journalism ethics.
Relentless curiosity, merciless critical thinking, a sharp eye for detail and the ability to synthesize complex information.
A willingness to ask difficult questions, report uncomfortable truths and dive deep.
The ability to work multiple developing stories simultaneously.
Team-centric approach and appreciation for collaboration.

The details:

Start date: January 2026

Salary range: $65-75K, depending on experience

Reports to: Managing editor

Location: Wyoming preferred, but remote candidates with prior Equality State experience will be considered. Depending on location, this role could be office-based, home-office-based or a hybrid.
