Chicago Food and Drink Editor
Salary: $65,000 - $75,000
Time Out is looking for a writer and editor who is deeply entrenched in Chicago’s food and drink scene to serve as our local expert on all things dining and drinking in the city. If you know Chicago’s restaurant scene inside and out and have a clear perspective on what makes the city’s culinary world unique, this is the role for you. The Chicago Food and Drink Editor will curate the best of the region for our audience across all platforms—including digital, social, email and live events at Time Out Market Chicago. This is a multifaceted position focusing on writing and social media planning, tasked with the overall responsibility of engaging our audience across multiple verticals and channels, with an emphasis on digital storytelling. You’ll be responsible for all of Time Out’s coverage on Chicago when it comes to restaurants, bars, chef profiles and food and drink trends.
Key Responsibilities
- Write and curate food and drink features for Time Out Chicago
- Write stories about major restaurant and bar openings, culinary news, best-of lists and upcoming food and drink events
- Work with Time Out’s social and video team to grow our reach and engagement on Instagram and Facebook
- Publish relevant and comprehensive content across the site that can be shared on Time Out’s national US social channels
- Help curate new vendors, pop-ups and partners for Time Out Market Chicago
- Ensure Time Out Chicago’s core food and drink guides are updated in a timely manner
- Have your finger on the pulse of what’s happening in Chicago’s food and drink scene; use your professional contacts and social-media networks to be the first to identify the next big thing.
- Work with the Time Out Market team to create an editorial calendar for covering the Market, and its chefs, in new and innovative ways
- Build and optimize a dedicated weekly newsletter for Time Out Chicago, highlighting the most enticing, relevant and timely content our readers
- Embrace Time Out’s digital-first, mobile-first philosophy—a strong background in digital production is absolutely essential to this role
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Advanced English proficiency
- Five to six years of professional experience in the media industry, with a specific focus on digital content and production
- Ability to work with various tools of the trade, including content management systems and basic photo skills
- Experience with analytical tools, including Google Analytics, Looker and Marfeel
