Job Title: Communications Director
Salary Range: $50,296.48 - $87,336.60 Annually
Job Location: The primary location for this position would be City Hall (100 Military Plaza, San Antonio, TX, 78205)

Job Summary:
Under general direction, the Communications Director leads all public-facing messaging and media efforts for the Office of Councilwoman Dr. Sukh Kaur. This position requires a strategic communicator with strong writing and digital media skills, capable of translating policy into engaging and accessible content. This role also fulfills COSA requirements for public communications work including the preparation of news releases, social media updates, and other official communications. This is an at-will position reporting directly to the Chief of Staff and Councilwoman.
Essential Job Functions:
- Manage weekly posting schedule for social media channels, including content creation, editing, and design for Facebook, Instagram, X, and Nextdoor
- Create written content for print and email distribution of Newsletter and E-Blast using Mailchimp on a Quarterly and Bi-Monthly basis, respectively.
- Draft press releases, respond to and coordinate media requests, and pitch stories related to important events, policy, or opportunities related to District 1 or the district 1 Councilwoman.
- Ensure that content remains engaging and approachable by the district 1 constituency; examples of content would be: Policy, Council Session recaps, public programming, or other council office priorities
- Capture content in both video and photo format to be shared in multiple mediums or edited for the purposes of content creation
- Create, edit, and design various forms of media through Canva or graphic design and editing software for District 1 Office purposes
- Monitor and analyze social media performance and public feedback to inform future outreach strategies.
- Develop innovative communication strategies and mediums to convey information with the diverse constituency of District 1.
- Serve as Council Support staff for the Councilwoman at events throughout San Antonio for purposes of gathering content (photography and/or videography)
- Support office-wide initiatives and perform other duties as required.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Three (3) years of relevant experience in public relations, communications, or a related field.
- Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License (preferred).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Skilled in graphic design, video edit and capture, as well as, content creation.
- Strong verbal, writing and editing skills tailored to diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with Mailchimp, Canva, social media platforms, and digital analytics tools.
- Experience in a political, government, nonprofit, or advocacy environment.
- Knowledge of communications and marketing principles and best practices.
- Highly organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred, not required).

- Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to translate complex policy issues into clear, compelling public messaging.
- Evidence of built and maintained positive relationships with media, community members, and internal stakeholders.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, community-facing office environment.
Additional Information:
- This position will require attendance at occasional evening or weekend events.
- Working conditions are primarily office-based but include frequent travel within the district for events, meetings, and site visits.
- Council Aide positions are at-will and can be terminated at any time for any reason.
