Job Title: Engagement and Communications Specialist

Location: must be based in the Greater Saint John Region, New Brunswick (or willing to relocate)
Employment Term: Full-Time (40 hours/week) to March 31, 2026 with the possibility of extension
Wage Range: $22 - $23/h depending on qualifications
Start Date: July 15, 2025, or as soon as possible
Reports To: Executive Director

Position Summary
ACAP Saint John is seeking an Engagement and Communications Specialist to lead and support community outreach, environmental education, and communications initiatives. The successful candidate will plan and manage volunteer events, engage schools and special interest groups, and lead the development and delivery of strategic communication and education programs both online and in-person. The role also involves working closely with the Executive Director and other project staff to enhance visibility, build relationships with community stakeholders, and increase awareness of ACAP Saint John's impact.
Key Responsibilities
Communications & Digital Strategy
- Develop and implement communication strategies for environmental projects and initiatives
- Plan, create, and manage content for ACAPSJ’s social media channels, including educational campaigns
- Manage website content updates, including project highlights, event recaps, and press releases
- Design engaging visuals and infographics using tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite
- Document events through photography, social media coverage, and summary reports
- Develop newsletters and campaigns to share update, events and opportunities using Salesforce
- Provide media relations support and prepare media kits and briefing documents
- Monitor engagement metrics and adapt communication strategies based on insights
- Support storytelling and content creation to highlight project impact and community voices
- Participate in internal planning sessions, contributing creative ideas for new programs
- Serve as a liaison between the organization and community members, educators, and local leaders
Community Engagement & Education
- Deliver presentations to schools, community groups, and the public (virtually and in-person) alongside staff.
- Coordinate and lead ACAP Saint John's youth environmental education programs and classroom workshops
- Create print and digital educational resources and tip sheets tailored to diverse audiences
- Initiate partnerships with schools and local organizations to promote ACAP Saint John's programming
- Support the design and delivery of creative public campaigns on environmental topics
Volunteer & Event Coordination
- Assist in executing large-scale volunteer events such as cleanups and tree plantings
- Liaise with volunteers and community partners to ensure meaningful participation
- Prepare event signage, registration forms, waivers, and post-event communications
Project & Funding Support
- Contribute to grant writing, fundraising campaigns, and proposal development for engagement initiatives
- Assist with reporting and tracking project deliverables and outreach activities
- Maintain a detailed database of outreach metrics and success stories
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to adapt for different audiences
- Experience with digital content creation and social media management
- Comfort with public speaking and engaging with diverse community groups
- Graphic design skills (Canva, Adobe tools) and email marketing experience (Salesforce)
- Organized and able to balance multiple priorities and deadlines
- Self-starter with a collaborative spirit and team-oriented mindset
- Familiarity with environmental topics and interest in climate and sustainability
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Zoom, and other collaborative tools
- Experience with website editing (e.g., Squarespace) and newsletter formatting is a plus
- Grant writing or fundraising experience is considered an asset
Additional Information
- Some evening or weekend work may be required for community events
