Why This Role Matters
Christie’s is seeking a Managing Editor to join its NY-based editorial team. Reporting to the Editorial Director, VP, Americas, and working closely with editorial, video, photography, production, and social teams, this fast-paced dynamic role will serve as daily traffic control for all written editorial products for the Americas division. The Managing Editor will be responsible for overseeing processes, copy editing and managing the team to deliver world-class written content on deadline.
How You'll Make An Impact
- Works across more than 80 categories of art to engage art specialists, find and develop unique and engaging stories
- Manage daily trafficking and scheduling across editorial, visuals, and production for fast-paced NY-based editorial team
- Marshall internal and external resources to assign, edit, and publish stories on deadline; ramping up for coverage during high volume seasons
- Ensuring timely publication to strategically align with marketing, press and pre-and post-sale deadlines
- Attend department-wide meetings, create information packets, and gather and centralize assets
- Partner closely with production team: Prep stories for publication, q/a content pre-publication to ensure accuracy, update existing content as needed with new information
- Copy edit content or assign to top editors and copyeditors, ensuring accuracy of tone, voice, and auction details
- Ensuring timely publication to align with marketing, press and pre-sale deadlines
- Support the Americas’ contribution to the company’s global weekly newsletter, Going Once
- Manage freelance budget and contracts, oversee invoices, recruit and onboard new freelancers and agencies
- Report back on data insights and performance
What You’ll Bring To The Team
- Minimum 5 years in a similar role at fast-paced auction house, digital publication or agency
- Strong organizational skills and project management skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Good people management skills
- Excellent ability to manage multiple projects and timelines simultaneously while quickly raising concerns or changed priorities
- A natural collaborator able to partner effectively with multiple stakeholders
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including superior written and spoken communication and strong attention to detail. Adept communicator across, up, and down organizations
- Strong knowledge of art and artists with an ability to understand and showcase knowledge of various movements, time periods, and cultures
- Creativity and innovation – an entrepreneurial approach combined with energy and enthusiasm to create innovative image collections that help drive the stories
- Familiarity with using a CMS
- Experience with project management tools and systems including Monday.com. Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Ability to maintain confidential information
