As Haaretz grows, we are seeking an experienced editor who will cultivate and lead a team of U.S.-based staff writers, columnists and freelancers, covering Israel-U.S. relations, antisemitism, threats to liberal democracy, Jewish life in America, Palestinian and Muslim communities, and the intersection of Middle East and U.S. politics at a time of unprecedented tensions.
This is a full-time position for a journalist residing in the U.S. (East Coast-based).
Responsibilities:
● Commission news stories, features and analyses from an expanding team of Haaretz journalists and freelancers across North America and be responsible for the final product.
● Manage the U.S. workflow: Be in daily contact with writers and editors, plan coverage, coordinate with Haaretz’s main hub in Tel Aviv.
● Work with all Haaretz departments to produce the highest standard of journalism across platforms. Beyond the newsroom, this includes working with photographers, video journalists, social media and newsletter editors, marketing and conferences teams, podcast producers and more.
Qualifications and skills:
● Strong knowledge of U.S. Jewish politics and Jewish communities in the U.S., as well as knowledge of Israel, the Middle East and global affairs.
● The ability to manage a team and implement strategy while juggling breaking news.
● At least five years of experience in an editing role in a news organization, preferably a global news organization.
● Excellent English (reading, writing and editing); fluency in Hebrew an advantage.
● Self-motivated, proactive and comfortable with tight deadlines and irregular working hours.
● Enthusiastic about finding new talent, developing young writers and learning new skills as needed.
