students to bridge their social justice passions with their academic pursuits and build community with others dedicated to leading social justice-centered lives. CESJ programs take the form of & learning communities,& composed of students, faculty, staff, and community partner organizations throughout New York City. Through our civic engagement and social justice programming, the Lang community connects theoretical frameworks with the lived experience, fostering a critical space where transformative learning occurs.

About The Role
Lang CESJ is seeking a Student Assistant for approximately 12 hours per week to support the creation and curation of our newsletter, as well as office processes that promote the visibility of office programs and share social justice-related opportunities with Lang students. This position includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities and deliverables:
Deliverables
- Newsletter Management and Content Development:
- Collaborate closely with the Lang CESJ Director, Associate Director, and student staff to develop and implement a communications and community relations plan.
○ Co-create rubric for determining what kinds of content should be included in newsletter items with newsletter staff and CESJ leadership staff
- Create newsletter themes connected to Heritage Months and social justice issues for content development in the biweekly newsletter.
- Serve as the editor for the newsletter, ensuring high-quality and relevant content.
- Serve as an occasional writer for content in the newsletter.
- Actively research and promote relevant event listings, opportunities, and on- and off-campus programs focusing on social justice themes with newsletter staff.
- Review the newsletter for content accuracy and relevance before distribution.
- Marketing and Promotion:
- Design engaging thumbnails for social media posts to promote signing up for and reading the newsletter.
- Conduct outreach to The New School community for newsletter contributions and recaps.
- Data Analysis and Survey Creation:
- Analyze Mailchimp data to understand the audience and impact of the newsletter.
- Present data updates at weekly meetings.
- Create a survey in collaboration with CESJ survey staff to gather feedback and insights on newsletter
- Meeting Participation:
- Attend staff meetings and coworking sessions related to your role.
- Uphold Community Agreements:
- Grow professional experience in understanding and maintaining a positive and equitable workplace culture.
Minimum Qualifications
- Student at The New School, actively enrolled during Spring 2026 semesters
- Strong interest in and/or demonstrated commitment to social justice
- High attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Google Apps (including Drive/Docs), Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to commit to the role through May 2026
- Ability to work between the hours of 9am-6pm, Monday-Friday
- Other duties as assigned, such as flier creation, facilitation, social media posting, event staffing, general team support, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with design software for flyers (Adobe Creative Suite, and Canva)
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Basic research skills
- Proficient/familiar with e-newsletter apps, such as Tinyletter/MailChimp
Work Mode
Hybrid/Split - Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include managing marketing and outreach efforts, analyzing Mailchimp data, developing surveys, and presenting insights to improve engagement and impact. The position also requires active participation in team meetings and a commitment to fostering an equitable, inclusive workplace culture.
