Advertised Job Summary:
Under general supervision, the Research Program Coordinator facilitates research-related activities for students and faculty conducting research. The Coordinator manages all research expenditures for students and faculty. The Coordinator serves as primary support for departmental research projects. The Coordinator serves as the Student Hire Representative for all research students. Demonstrates commitment to conducting business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to policies, procedures, and regulations.
Job Related Minimum Required Education And Experience:
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 2 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with university faculty/staff administration
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
- Proficient with database creation and management
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- General knowledge of human subjects’ protections/research regulatory processes.
- Knowledge of Administrative and business management principles, practices, and procedures.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to administrative/business activities of the organization.
- Knowledge of USCSOMG fiscal policies, practices, and procedures.

Job Duty:
Manages and oversees programs and projects associated with Medical Student Research, including, but not limited to, SOARinG, Summer Research Zero-Credit Elective, Research Scholars, Student Research Fellowship program, Medical Student Research Stakeholder group, research newsletter, student research travel, etc. Manages and oversees finances associated with the student research budget/account (student travel, research supply purchase, stipends for fellowship students, etc.).

Serves as the Student Hire Representative and liaison for students being hired as Graduate Research Assistants in HCM, which includes managing student workers alongside their Principle Investigator, completing hiring processes in HCM, approving entered time in Time and Labor, etc.

Manages and maintains projects associated with faculty research grant tracking and utilization of funds for supply and equipment budgets. Partners with staff in the Business and Finance Office and BMS to ensure proper tracking, analysis, and reporting of funds/budgets.

Maintains appropriate compliance training for faculty, staff, and students involved in research in alignment with USC and Prisma Health. Assists in IRB application submissions, continuing reviews, amendments, and closeouts for faculty and students. Maintains working relationships with Prisma Health Office of Human Research Protections and USC Columbia Office of Research Compliance. Manages and oversees policies and procedures associated with student research and faculty research.

Facilitates and fosters collaborative working relationships on research projects between clinicians, faculty, students and health partners. Facilitates and fosters partnerships and serves as the point of contact across various research constituencies, including project heads, research directors, study teams, investigators and external collaborators. Presents updates to numerous invested groups including, but not limited to, SOMG students and faculty, Prisma Health Vice Chairs of Academics, Prisma Health Sciences Center Quarterly Research Updates, USC SOMG Dean’s Cabinet, Prisma Health Research Managers and Coordinator, The Research Center for Transforming Health Peer Exchange and Education for Research Coordinators (PEER), USC Columbia IRB, USC Columbia Environmental Health and Safety team.
