Role Overview
We’re looking for a freelancer to help us consistently fill 25–30 seats within a 2-3 week lead time.
Our team will handle event planning and content. Your role will be to support marketing efforts.
We already have a newsletter, social media, and outreach strategy in place to drive attendance. You will augment these efforts with the below responsibilities.
Targeting 25-30 attendance in short term and looking to ramp that up over the course of the year. This job is short-term, but can convert to long-term if it is a good fit.
The goal is not to just raise awareness via impressions, but to drive high-quality attendance:
- identify and reach the right people
- drive high-quality RSVPs
- ensure strong show-up rates
Responsibilities
1) Targeted Outreach (Primary Lever)
- Identify relevant individuals and communities in NYC (writers, researchers, operators, etc.)
- Execute direct outreach via:
- email
- DMs (Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Instagram)
Goal: generate high-intent RSVPs from the right audience
2) Distribution (Selective, Not Broad)
- Post events on key platforms:
- Eventbrite, Luma, etc.
- Identify 2–5 relevant newsletters / communities per event
- Advise on social media strategy
No spray-and-pray posting
3) Positioning & Conversion
- Refine event titles and descriptions
- Ensure clear, compelling framing (“why this matters”)
- Optimize RSVP flow (low friction, clear CTA)
Goal: 70–90% show-up rate
What We’re Looking For
- Experience promoting small, curated events (not large conferences)
- Familiarity with NYC communities (media, tech, policy, culture, etc.)
- Strong written communication (for outreach + positioning)
- Comfortable doing manual, targeted outreach
- Good judgment and taste (critical for audience fit)
What This Role Is NOT
- Not a generic social media manager
- Not ad-heavy performance marketing
- Not mass event promotion
If your instinct is “run ads and increase impressions,” this is not the role.
