Communications Specialist – Job Description
Position Title:Communications Specialist
Status/Hours: Full Time
Regular Office Hours: M-F, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Reports to: Senior Staff and/or Executive Director
The HBA Greater Cleveland is looking to employ a Communications Specialist with exceptional writing skills. A communications specialist is expected to be a strategic thinker with attention to detail, working well under pressure, and meeting deadlines. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
In Design and/or Canva experience a plus.
Key duties/responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a communication strategy with the Executive Director that includes media outreach and social media content creation.
- Research and write press releases, and content for the company website, infographics, blogs, and newsletters. Oversees the content and maintenance of the HBA’s website.
- Work with key staff and volunteers to brainstorm content ideas, in line with the HBA’s strategic plan.
- Plans and creates communications to the general membership. Prepares media kits, brochures, and other association publications.
- Serves as editor of the association newsletter by writing, obtaining, and editing articles; performing desktop publishing; securing advertising.
- Responsible for production of the association’s annual membership directory, “Who’s Who”.
- Develops and maintains a system for media contacts, and publication advertisers.
- Follows budgets and guidelines for the printing of association publications.
- Maintains a computer filing system for publications’ advertising, introductory and follow-up approach letters, printing estimates, art materials, and correspondence.
- Researches and writes articles on behalf of the association for various external publications.
- Assist and attend HBA member events.
- Performs other duties as directed by senior staff and/or Executive Director.
- Develop membership marketing materials such as brochures, & membership application
- Research and utilize OHBA and NAHB marketing tools which contribute to enhance HBA marketing initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Microsoft Office Applications - specifically Excel, Word, Publisher, and Outlook.
· Desktop Publishing – In Design and/or Canva
· Ability to organize and prioritize tasks for self and others involved in support of project.
· Excellent verbal and written communication.
· Physical ability for occasionally lifting up to 10 pounds, navigating stairs, using a hand cart, standing for periods of time during special events.
· Familiar with Artificial Intelligence.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Special qualifications:Strong interest in working with groups and supporting the local community. A willingness to work some evenings for limited weekends for special events and as job requires.
