Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Program Associate, the Program Coordinator will work closely with the Program Associate, as well as Generation STEAM staff, to assist with the planning and execution of community, school and industry events, community engagement efforts, social media creation and management, and newsletter creation.
The Program Coordinator will support event planning, logistics coordination, event execution, and digital marketing (social media, newsletters, and websites) and promotional duties for a host of Generation STEAM programming and events, including the San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering, Women Who Inspire Conference, industry events, student and teacher engagements.
This position requires an individual who shows initiative and creativity, possesses strong verbal and written communication skills, an ability to multi-task, possesses planning and organizational skills, an ability to work within a department, and demonstrates exceptional interpersonal skills. This is a wonderful opportunity to work in a dynamic environment while gaining valuable experience working on a variety of impactful community projects involving event coordination, program administration, content creation, and fundraising/sponsor relations.
Reporting Hours: 15 hours/week; occasionally evenings and weekends as needed (during special events)
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning and execution of community events, community activities and industry events
- Assist with the sponsor/partner acknowledgement via social media content, graphic creation and posting
- Assist with planning and management of social media sites and Generation STEAM websites
- Work with Biocom’s marketing department to ensure brand alignment and messaging
- Assist with written communication materials for corporate and foundation donors
- Generation STEAM newsletter content creation and coverage
- Represent Generation STEAM at community events
- Assist Generation STEAM staff with administrative duties and special projects, as assigned
- On-site setup and take down for events
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required
- Must have a passion for giving back to the community and positively impacting students’ lives
- Strong copywriting and copy-editing skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Drive and Canva
- Ability to work independently and take initiative on projects
- Experience supporting events
- Ability to work on multiple tasks
- High attention to detail
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Stay updated on social media trends, platform updates, and digital marketing best practices
- Strong organizational skills, maintain complete records and files
- Must have reliable transportation to work in the office and attend events
- Strong time management skills, ability to work with strict and tight deadlines
- Knowledge of Constant Contact, Salesforce.com, as well as Salesforce products (Pardot) and report creation a plus
Working Conditions:
The employee will frequently sit, talk, use hands to touch, handle, feel or operate tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee will occasionally walk and must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 lbs. The employee must be able to see closely and be able to adjust focus for use of the computer. The employee must be able to hear and speak to use phone equipment to direct calls and take messages.
Additional Physical Demands & Travel:
Although infrequent, must be available some evenings, early mornings and weekends as needed in relation to the event and program delivery schedule. Employee will be asked to travel throughout the duration of this position to meetings, programs, and events. Additional physical demands leading up to large events/programs (i.e., Festival Week) and delivery during and just following these events may include long periods of standing, walking, talking as well as an increased manual labor such as lifting boxes, loading vehicles, site teardowns, etc.
