Description
Has overall responsibility for developing, writing and editing materials for a University publication (U of H) or function (s). Disseminates material about university research, academics, activities, events and awards.
- Creates and plans thematic issues of university features magazine.
- Assigns, directs and edits in-house and freelance magazine feature articles.
- Conceives, researches and writes feature articles for a university feature magazine, including photo and illustration planning.
- Consults with and directs designer and photographer on overall design, execution and production of magazine, mailing/distribution, and targeting of specific audiences for special marketing and promotion of the university through feature magazine.
- Maintains regular contact with university and college administrators concerning ongoing academic and related programs; maintains regular contact with college faculty concerning ongoing research, teaching and service.
- Consults with administrators and faculty members concerning the composition of statements and related communications.
- Research university programs for potential story ideas to generate public interest and identifies appropriate outlets for specific story interests.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Position Responsibilities
The Writer/Editor supports the College’s communications and storytelling efforts through clear, engaging and audience-focused writing across digital and print platforms. This position is responsible for developing original content, maintaining editorial quality, and helping communicate the College’s impact through strategic storytelling.
This position is ideal for a strong writer and editor who is organized, collaborative, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Writing & Storytelling
- Writes original content for a variety of audiences and platforms, including feature stories, news articles, newsletters, websites, reports, marketing materials and email communications.
- Develops compelling storytelling that highlights College initiatives, student experiences, faculty achievements, alumni success and events.
- Conducts interviews and gathers information from faculty, staff, students and partners to support content development.
- Adapts messaging and tone based on audience, platform and communication goals.
Editing & Editorial Standards
- Edits and proofreads content for clarity, grammar, accuracy, tone and consistency in accordance with AP style and College editorial standards.
- Reviews content across platforms to ensure quality, consistency and alignment with College messaging and branding.
- Exercises editorial judgment while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Fact-checks information and coordinates content reviews with faculty and staff as appropriate.
Website & Digital Content
- Updates and maintains website content using the College’s content management system.
- Reviews digital content regularly to ensure accuracy, relevance and usability.
- Assists with organizing and maintaining written content across digital platforms.
Collaboration & Project Support
- Collaborates with communications team members, faculty and staff to identify story opportunities and support College priorities.
- Assists with content planning and editorial scheduling for communications initiatives.
- Maintains organized digital files and project documentation.
- Represents the College professionally in interactions with campus and community partners.
Additional Qualifications
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience working within AP style guidelines.
- Familiarity with web content management systems and digital publishing platforms preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines in a collaborative environment.

Education will be considered in lieu of experience.
MQ: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
