Role Description This is a full-time role for a Production Editor at Westchester Publishing Services. The Production Editor manages titles from manuscript to final files, coordinating with authors, editors, and internal teams to ensure schedules are met and quality standards are upheld. Daily responsibilities include reviewing and preparing manuscripts for production, overseeing copyediting and proofreading, checking page layouts and typesetting, and performing detailed quality checks on print and digital outputs. The role involves tracking schedules and project milestones, updating project management systems, and communicating clearly with stakeholders about progress, issues, and resolutions. The Production Editor also applies publisher style guides, manages corrections and rework, and supports continuous improvement of workflows and documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Publishing, Communications, or a related field.
- Minimum 2-3 years of directly related experience in publishing.
- Must be highly organized, detail oriented, and technically minded.
- Strong editorial skills, including copyediting, proofreading, and familiarity with standard style guides (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style, APA, MLA).
- Experience with production workflows for books or journals, including managing schedules, coordinating multiple projects, and tracking milestones.
- Comfort with composition and layout tools such as Adobe InDesign and/or LaTeX, and the ability to review typeset pages for accuracy and consistency.
- Working knowledge of digital formats and conversion processes (e.g., XML, accessible ePub, fixed layout, and other e-book formats) or willingness to learn.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with authors, clients, and distributed internal teams.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
- Proficiency with standard office and project management tools (e.g., MS Office or Google Workspace, online project trackers, and file-sharing platforms).
- Journal experience a plus
