Role Description The Association Membership Marketing Lead is a full-time, on-site role based in the Washington DC–Baltimore Area. This role is responsible for planning, executing, and optimizing membership marketing campaigns to acquire, engage, and retain association members. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing and testing marketing strategies, managing email and digital campaigns, and analyzing performance data to drive membership growth. The position also involves collaborating with sales, product, and content teams to refine value propositions, improve member journeys, and support membership-related promotions and events. The Marketing Lead, owns cross-channel communications, digital publishing, and audience development for association-related products and subscriptions.
Content and website operations:
- Own CEO Update job board, including weekly jobs alert email distribution and cross promotion.
- Update and maintain accurate member organization records in Salesforce, Cupola, and online directories whenever an association executive joins, changes roles, or leaves an organization, ensuring timely and consistent data across all systems.
- Manage website updates and ongoing maintenance, ensuring content accuracy, functionality, and UX optimization, while implementing tracking (e.g., Google Analytics, Tag Manager) to monitor performance and inform data-driven improvements.
Marketing campaigns and journeys:
- Build and deploy marketing campaigns for subscription and print products.
- Partner with the Marketing Director to design and refine membership and lifecycle journeys as they relate to subscribers and readers.
- Manage and market the CEO & Senior Executive Compensation Report and the U.S. Association & Nonprofit Compensation Report, including campaign creation and planning, email and web promotion, and reporting.
- Develop and market association-related free resources and research reports (e.g., reports, guides, downloads) using CEO Update channels to drive lead generation.
- Oversee core marketing efforts for Bumblebee Data as a strategic pipeline into CEO Update membership, planning email and web promotions that both drive stand-alone subscriptions and test packaging/upgrade paths into membership in coordination with sales and product leads.
Lead generation, lists, and cross-brand support:
- Run association lead generation campaigns driven through CEO Update (e.g., gated content, webinars, events).
- Sales, advertising, and social support.
- Manage social media for CEO Update products and subscriptions and support social promotion of association initiatives as needed.
- Execute advertising deliverables in CEO Update channels, including web and newsletter ad placement, QA, and coordination with sales and sponsors.
Qualifications
- Experience in marketing communications digital publishing, ideally in B2B or information services.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to turn editorial content into compelling marketing copy.
- Proficiency with email and CMS platforms; familiarity with Salesforce/Marketing Cloud is a plus.
- Demonstrated graphic design experience, preferably with hands-on proficiency in Canva for creating digital and social media assets.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and comfort managing recurring deadlines.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across teams.
- Ability to manage a high-volume workload across multiple concurrent projects, prioritizing tasks, meeting deadlines, and maintaining quality and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
