The Senior Communications Associate, Centers and Institutes, Law Center - Georgetown University (Senior Communications Associate) develops and executes strategic communications initiatives that elevate the visibility, impact, and reputation of the Law Center’s academic centers and institutes. The position supports a diverse portfolio of programs by translating complex legal scholarship, policy work, and public engagement into accessible, compelling content for internal and external audiences.
This role manages multi-channel communications strategies, which include websites, social media, media relations, and email newsletters, while ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and brand standards. The Senior Communications Associate plays a key role in planning, producing, and distributing newsletters that highlight research, events, and center activities, serving as a primary tool for audience engagement and stakeholder outreach. The position partners closely with center directors, faculty, and administrative leaders to advance thought leadership, increase audience engagement, and support fundraising and external relations efforts.
Additional Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To
- Develop and implement communications strategies for assigned centers and institutes
- Plan, write, edit, and distribute recurring and special email newsletters
- As needed, create and manage content across web, email, and social media platforms
- Coordinate media relations and promote centers and institute’s scholarship and events
- Provide communications guidance to center leadership and staff
- Manage editorial calendars, including newsletter production schedules
- Analyze communications performance, including newsletter metrics, and optimize engagement strategies
Work Interactions
This position reports to the Senior Executive Director of Centers & Institutes within the Law Center and works collaboratively with communications colleagues, center and institute directors, faculty, development staff, and administrative units. The Communications Manager serves as the primary communications liaison for assigned centers and institutes, ensuring consistent messaging and strategic alignment with the Law Center’s broader communications goals.
The role regularly collaborates with stakeholders to gather content and approvals, ensuring timely and accurate dissemination of information to internal and external audiences. The position contributes to advancing the Law Center’s mission by amplifying research, policy impact, and public engagement initiatives that shape legal discourse and inform global audiences.
Requirements And Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field
- 5+ years of professional experience in communications, marketing, or public affairs
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing communications strategies
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills, including newsletter and email communications
- Experience managing digital communications channels (web, email marketing platforms, social media)
- Ability to translate complex academic or policy content into accessible messaging
- Strong project management and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in higher education, law, or policy environments
- Experience developing and managing email newsletter campaigns and audience segmentation
- Familiarity with design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop)
- Familiarity with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Hootsuite)
- Familiarity with web platforms (e.g., WordPress, LiveWhale)
- Knowledge of content management systems and analytics tools
- Supervisory experience

Pay Range
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$47,586.00 - $87,558.13
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
