Adat Ari El is a vibrant Conservative synagogue serving the San Fernando Valley through inspiring worship, lifelong learning, meaningful relationships, and a deep commitment to Jewish life. We are seeking a creative, organized, and collaborative Communications Manager to help strengthen how we connect with congregants, prospective members, donors, parents, and the broader community.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys both storytelling and systems-building. The Communications Manager will oversee the day-to-day execution of the synagogue's communications efforts while helping continue to build the processes, workflows, and tools that support a modern, responsive communications department.
Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with clergy, departmental leaders, lay leaders, and our communications consultant, this position plays an important role in helping our community stay informed, engaged, and connected.

Position Summary
The Communications Manager is responsible for planning, creating, and executing communications across digital, print, email, social media, and web platforms. This individual will manage communications projects from concept through completion while collaborating with staff across the organization to promote programs, events, educational offerings, membership initiatives, and development efforts.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional communicator who enjoys writing, organizing projects, learning new technologies, improving processes, and finding creative ways to engage people.
Content Creation & Storytelling
- Write, edit, post engaging content for emails, website, social media, print materials, and other promotional campaigns.
- Develop compelling stories that celebrate the people, programs, and impact of Adat Ari El.
- Ensure all communications reflect a consistent voice, tone, and visual identity across all departments and programs
Program & Event Marketing
- Partner with clergy and staff to develop communications plans for programs, holidays, educational offerings, lifecycle events, and community initiatives.
- Coordinate promotional timelines across email, social media, website, and print.
- Help maximize participation through thoughtful, audience-focused communications.
Development & Membership Communications
- Support membership and fundraising campaigns through compelling donor communications and stewardship materials.
- Assist with annual membership renewal communications and engagement initiatives.
- Collaborate with Development, Event, and Membership staff to strengthen constituent communications throughout the year.
Digital Communications
- Manage and continually improve website content.
- Create and distribute email campaigns while monitoring engagement.
- Develop and maintain an active social media presence.
- Track communications performance using available analytics.
Communications Operations
- Coordinate communications projects from intake through completion.
- Maintain editorial calendars, project timelines, and communication workflows.
- Help refine systems and processes that improve collaboration across departments.
- Organize digital assets, templates, and communications resources.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of professional communications, marketing, or nonprofit communications experience.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Experience with Constant Contact, Mailchimp, or similar email platforms.
- Experience with web development platforms (e.g. WordPress, Squarespace)
- Experience managing organizational social media and using content management platforms
- Experience with CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce, Blackbaud). Adat Ari El uses ShulCloud; familiarity with it is a major plus
- Graphic design experience using Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, and similar.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Collaborative work style and desire to improve systems.
- Passion for Jewish communal life and the mission of Adat Ari El.
- Some evening hours required for social media content.

Compensation
$65,000–$72,000, commensurate with experience.
