The Associate Editor is responsible for supporting the Editorial Director and rest of editorial team in all editorial efforts, development of editorial for all print and digital properties, and preparation (proofing, layout instruction, etc.) of all print and digital properties leading to final publishing. The Associate Editor also will assist in editorial planning and assist the overall PMA team in marketing and event planning, and content creation.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and edit press releases, post online and place into department folders for use in print magazine.
- Help Editorial Director and other editorial staff develop and produce feature articles for each print and online issue, and edit each other’s feature articles. This includes setting up visits and interviews, procuring images and other content, and drafting articles. Also assist with issue-cover selection.
- Proof feature articles, columns and departments, and then proof final issue prior to publishing.
- Write and post digital content.
- Assist in moderating/hosting webinars and seminars.
- Occasionally travel to manufacturing and supplier operations; and industry events and conferences; and also attend online webinars, seminars and events in order to keep up on industry developments and support feature-article creation.
- Provide support in developing events and editorial coverage, then work with entire team to develop, edit and publish media kit and editorial calendar prior to FABTECH each year.
- Work with assigned magazine columnists to schedule and receive their columns, and edit for publication.
- Ensure proper website classification of editorial items from each issue after being provided content-management-system links from Editorial Manager.
- Assist PSI marketing team and others at PMA in editing marketing materials, press releases, The Pulse and other communications.
- Work with PSI and PMA on planning and providing content for events, websites, publications, etc.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: 5-plus years in B2B trade publishing.
- Technology: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CRM or membership database software.
- Skills: Strong writing, communication, interpersonal and networking skills.
- Abilities: Proven ability to analyze data and make strategic recommendations.
- Accountability: Holds self and others accountable to meet commitments.
