Position Overview
The Internal Communications & Digital Engagement Advisor – Specialist 1 supports the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Financial Management and Comptroller (ASA(FM&C)) by managing SharePoint-based information resources and delivering clear, consistent internal communications. The role combines SharePoint site design and administration, content governance, digital engagement, organizational storytelling, and project communications to keep the workforce informed, connected, and engaged.
The successful candidate will work closely with government leadership, program offices, content owners, and subject matter experts to translate organizational priorities, modernization efforts, workforce accomplishments, and technical information into accurate, accessible, and engaging communications. The position requires strong judgment, organization, responsiveness, and attention to detail in a fast-paced federal environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, administer, maintain, and continuously improve SharePoint sites and pages, including page layouts, navigation, information architecture, document libraries, links, content organization, permissions coordination, version control, archival practices, accessibility, and overall usability.
- Lead and execute all communications tasks associated with the project, including planning, drafting, editing, coordinating, publishing, and tracking communications across SharePoint and other approved internal channels.
- Develop, write, edit, and coordinate weekly and monthly newsletters, internal news articles, feature stories, workforce announcements, leadership communications, and related content.
- Manage recurring SharePoint content updates; coordinate with content owners and subject matter experts to validate information, establish update cycles, and ensure information remains current, accurate, relevant, and discoverable.
- Identify and communicate organizational accomplishments, employee achievements, modernization efforts, program milestones, workforce success stories, mission priorities, and other key initiatives.
- Develop graphics, presentations, digital communication products, and visual content supporting workforce engagement, All Hands meetings, leadership engagements, events, and organizational initiatives.
- Plan and support internal communication campaigns, announcements, workforce events, and leadership priorities using SharePoint and other approved communication channels.
- Maintain an integrated communications calendar covering recurring communications, campaigns, SharePoint updates, events, deadlines, and organizational milestones.
- Review communications and digital products for accuracy, consistency, tone, accessibility, formatting, and alignment with organizational objectives and federal/DoD standards.
- Recommend and implement opportunities to strengthen internal communications, improve SharePoint content and user experience, expand digital engagement, and increase workforce awareness of organizational priorities and resources.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Advanced degree in management, accounting, economics, finance, or a related discipline; bachelor's degree in one of these or a related discipline; or no degree when the experience requirement below is met.
- Experience: Minimum of 6 years of relevant professional experience with an advanced degree; minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience with a bachelor's degree; or minimum of 12 years of relevant professional experience with no degree.
- SharePoint Site Design and Administration: Demonstrated hands-on expertise designing, building, administering, maintaining, and improving SharePoint sites, including page creation, document libraries, navigation, information architecture, content organization, governance, lifecycle management, accessibility, and user-experience best practices.
- Project Communications: Demonstrated responsibility for all communications tasks associated with a project, including communications planning, stakeholder coordination, writing, editing, newsletters, internal articles, announcements, leadership communications, digital content, communication campaigns, and communications calendars.
- Federal / Organizational Communications: Relevant experience in communications, organizational management, stakeholder engagement, digital communications, public affairs, or a related functional discipline.
- Writing and Editing: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong writing, editing, proofreading, storytelling, and the ability to translate complex or technical information into concise, accessible workforce communications.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to collaborate effectively with government leaders, program offices, subject matter experts, content owners, and cross-functional stakeholders while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Digital Content Management: Demonstrated ability to create, update, organize, govern, and maintain digital content supporting effective information sharing and workforce engagement.
- Microsoft 365: Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and related Microsoft 365 tools; experience developing presentations, graphics, or digital communications products is strongly preferred.
- Security Clearance: Active Secret security clearance is required.
- Work Location: Ability to work on-site at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience supporting the Department of Defense, Department of the Army, ASA(FM&C), or another federal government organization.
- Experience supporting communications for senior government, military, or executive-level leaders.
- Familiarity with Army or DoD organizational structures, missions, terminology, communication processes, and compliance expectations.
- Experience supporting organizational change, modernization, transformation, or workforce engagement initiatives.
- Experience developing communications plans, editorial calendars, content calendars, or integrated communication campaigns.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar tools used to create graphics and digital communication products.
- Experience supporting communications within a large, complex, or geographically dispersed organization.
