Editor, Video and Text, Americas Quarterly

Americas Quarterly (AQ), an influential English-language podcast and magazine on Latin American politics and economics, is looking for a talented and versatile journalist to work from our office in New York City.
The ideal candidate will be a skilled editor of both video and text, as AQ seeks to expand its offering of short videos on Latin American politics. We need someone who can conceive and edit a two-minute video on the Brazilian election, or an 800-word article on the Mexican economy, with equal skill and flair. This person will also help oversee AQ’s social media accounts and serve as a backup producer of the AQ Podcast. We are a small, entrepreneurial five-person team who punch far above our weight, delivering analysis and insight on Latin America to an influential global audience. This is a great opportunity for an early-to-mid-career journalist who is looking to grow professionally and embrace diverse responsibilities.
AQ is an editorially independent publication of Americas Society/Council of the Americas (AS/COA), sister not-for-profit organizations providing the most trusted forum for debate on issues affecting the Western Hemisphere. AQ staff are full-time employees of AS/COA and must be based in New York.
Successful candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Key Responsibilities
- Produce and edit short videos for social media on Latin American politics.
- Help brainstorm ideas for AQ podcast episodes.
- Help oversee AQ’s social media accounts.
- Commission and edit text articles for AQ’s website and print edition.
- Write and produce occasional articles for AQ under own byline.
- Help staff AQ and Americas Society events.
Skills And Qualifications Include
- One year or more of relevant experience in journalism or other profession(s) with strong, demonstrated ability as an editor of both video and text.
- Ability to digitize, edit, and export video and audio content using Adobe Premiere. Or Final Cut Pro.
- Fluent written and spoken English required; strong verbal communication skills in Spanish and/or Portuguese preferred.
- Some knowledge of Latin American politics and economics preferred.
- Ability to work well in a self-starting, team-focused environment.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings to help staff events.
Compensation
This is a full-time position. The salary range is $77k to $85k.
Employees are currently working a hybrid schedule of three days in the office and two days remotely each week. Department heads, at their discretion, may require more frequent in-office attendance—four or even five days per week—when programmatic or operational demands call for it. (i.e., UNGA, etc.)
