About the position
Navira Federal, LLC is a small business federal contractor. We are recruiting an Editor (Authored Works Review) for a proposed contract supporting the Hospital Communications Department at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. You will own the review, editing and clearance of written materials the medical center releases to the public, protecting the accuracy and credibility of its voice.
What you will do
- Manage the editorial lifecycle for public-facing articles, reports, web content and leadership messaging, including the editorial calendar and multi-stage reviews.
- Review, edit and proofread content for clarity, accuracy, grammar, and compliance with AP Style, command style guides and Department of Defense regulations.
- Fact-check claims, statistics and medical information with clinical and administrative subject matter experts.
- Coordinate feedback and revisions among authors, subject matter experts, legal counsel and public affairs leadership.
- Develop, maintain and enforce the organization's style guide.
- Prepare final documents for approval by the senior Public Affairs Officer before public release.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English or a related field.
- 5 or more years of professional editing, copyediting or technical writing experience.
- Exceptional command of English grammar, punctuation and Associated Press (AP) Style.
- Experience in healthcare communications, military public affairs, or a similar regulated, high-visibility environment.
- Thorough understanding of HIPAA and how to safeguard protected health information (PHI).
- Project management experience, including managing an editorial calendar and multi-author publications.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and source verification.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience reviewing medical research, public policy or military doctrine.
Work location and schedule
On site, full time, at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, 8901 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20889. Monday through Friday during normal business hours (about 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.), except federal holidays. Occasional support outside normal hours may be needed for events or emergencies. This position is not remote or hybrid.
Pay and benefits
Pay range: $95,000 to $120,000 per year. The salary offered within this range will depend on factors such as experience, skills and qualifications for the role.

Conditions of employment
- This position depends on Navira Federal receiving the Government contract that funds it. The contract is expected to start December 1, 2026.
- After a conditional offer of employment, you will need to: complete a Government background investigation (SF 85 or SF 86) for a position designated Tier II, non-critical sensitive, and receive a favorable determination; obtain a Common Access Card (CAC); sign a Defense Health Agency nondisclosure agreement (DHA Form 49); and complete required security awareness and HIPAA training.
- Before your start date, you will need to provide proof of the immunizations and TB screening the medical center requires for contractor staff (for example, TB testing and risk assessment, MMR, Tdap, influenza and hepatitis B).
- Security clearance: you do not need a clearance to apply, and an active Secret clearance is a plus. The Government may require Secret clearance eligibility for these positions. If it does, we will tell you before any offer.
