Run newsletters 1.3 million people actually openMost newsletters beg for a 20% open rate. Ours clear 45% or higher. Every issue. That's not luck. That's trust built over 30+ years by the Kim Komando brand.
We publish two 5-star-rated newsletters with more than 1.3 million subscribers:
- The Current: our daily tech news briefing, in inboxes every single day.
- Splash of AI: our twice-weekly guide to AI for real people, not engineers.
We're WestStar Multimedia, home of The Kim Komando Show (510 radio stations, SiriusXM, about 5 million weekly listeners), plus podcasts, video and a growing digital business. We're independent, debt-free and self-funded. Translation: no investors breathing down your neck, and your ideas don't need a committee's blessing.
Now we need one person to own it all.
The role: Director of NewslettersYou'll own both newsletters from blank page to inbox to results. Editorial, production, sponsors, growth and data all roll up to you.
You're part editor, part producer and part growth hacker. You care whether a headline is clever, and you care even more whether it got clicked. You report directly to Kim Komando.
What you'll doEditorial
- Manage our writers and keep them on deadline. A daily newsletter waits for no one.
- Edit every issue so it's clear, accurate and makes sense to a busy reader who just wants their phone to work.
- Write headlines that make people stop scrolling.
- Write subject lines and preview text that get opened.
Production
- Build and schedule every issue of The Current (daily) and Splash of AI (twice weekly) in beehiiv.
- Create images and graphics for each issue, using AI tools where they save time.
- Make sure the right sponsors land in the right issues, in the right slots, every time.
- Catch broken links, typos and wonky formatting before 1.3 million people do.
Growth and performance
- Track open rates, click rates, unsubscribes and sponsor performance, issue by issue.
- Know what's working and what's not, and say so plainly.
- Run A/B tests on subject lines, send times, layouts and content.
- Track signups and subscriber growth by source.
- Plan and run engagement campaigns: welcome series, re-engagement, referrals and list hygiene.
- Bring a steady stream of ideas to make both newsletters better, and then go make them happen.

- 5+ years running or producing email newsletters, with at least 2 years leading writers or a small team.

- You live in the numbers: open rate, CTR, deliverability, list growth, churn.
- You've managed sponsored content and ad placements without missing a booking.
- Comfortable with Canva, Photoshop or AI image tools.
- Calm on deadline. Daily means daily.

- Type: Full-time, salaried.
- Benefits: Health, dental, PTO and a great creative environment.
Here's how to stand out. Send us three things:
- Your resume.
- Your three best subject lines ever, with the open rates if you have them.
- One issue of The Current or Splash of AI, and the one change you'd make to it. Be honest. We can take it.
