The ideal candidate is a skilled journalist who knows how to uncover meaningful stories, conduct thoughtful interviews, and translate complex medical and technical information into accessible content for diverse audiences.
This opportunity is particularly well-suited for someone with a background in journalism, healthcare communications, military public affairs, or editorial content development who enjoys owning stories from initial concept through publication.
Key Responsibilities

- Identify compelling story opportunities involving medical advancements, clinical research, patient experiences, staff achievements, and organizational initiatives.
- Conduct in-depth interviews with healthcare professionals, patients, families, senior leadership, and subject-matter experts.
- Develop and manage editorial calendars, story pipelines, and publication schedules.
- Own the editorial process from initial pitch and research through writing, editing, approvals, and final publication.
- Translate complex medical, scientific, and technical information into engaging, accurate, and accessible stories.
- Produce balanced, well-researched articles using multiple sources and established journalistic standards.
- Write, rewrite, proofread, and edit content in accordance with AP Style.
- Collaborate with photographers, videographers, graphic designers, and communications professionals to develop multimedia storytelling packages.
- Support internal and external communications, including website updates, social media content, speeches, briefings, and leadership messaging.
- Assist with media relations activities, press conferences, community engagement, and crisis communications as needed.
- Coordinate interviews, manage stakeholder feedback, and navigate editorial review and approval processes.
- Ensure all content complies with applicable privacy regulations, including HIPAA and Protected Health Information (PHI) requirements.
- Manage multiple assignments and deadlines while maintaining editorial accuracy, quality, and consistency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.
- 5+ years of professional journalism, editorial writing, or long-form content development experience.
- Strong portfolio of published articles demonstrating feature writing, interviewing, research, and narrative storytelling.
- Experience in healthcare communications, military public affairs, or another regulated, high-visibility environment.
- Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and AP Style proficiency.
- Demonstrated ability to interview diverse stakeholders and translate complex information into compelling stories.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient privacy requirements.
- Experience managing editorial calendars, publication schedules, and multiple simultaneous assignments.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with patients, families, medical professionals, and senior leaders.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Experience collaborating on multimedia content and digital publications.
Ideal Candidate
We're looking for a journalist and storyteller who is naturally curious, detail-oriented, and passionate about uncovering stories that matter.
The ideal candidate has experience producing thoughtful, well-researched feature articles rather than exclusively short-form marketing copy. They should be comfortable conducting sensitive interviews, working with medical or technical subject matter, and balancing journalistic storytelling with organizational communications objectives.
A portfolio of published writing samples demonstrating strong long-form storytelling and interviewing experience is essential.
