The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for supporting and coordinating signature Volunteer programs and activities to support the mission of Ronald McDonald House New York. The Volunteer Coordinator works with individual volunteers as well as corporate and community groups in coordination with the needs and operations of the House.
The pay for this position is $27 per hour. The schedule for this role will be Tuesday through Saturday 11 AM – 7 PM.
Role/Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Coordinate, supervise and execute activities for signature Volunteers’ Programs
- Provide operational support for the Meal Program including overseeing and coordinating serving meals to families, picking up donations, inventorying, and putting away donations
- Provide hands-on and visible support to volunteers; execute daily tours and provide direction to volunteer individuals and groups including corporate and community partners
- Coordinate and collaborate with internal teams to understand and determine the current and changing needs of the organization; prepare projects for volunteer groups
- Provide timely communication to the volunteer team and other internal stakeholders as needed related programs and key projects
- Create monthly volunteer newsletter
- Lead virtual E-card sessions
- Coordinate and Manage Youth Advisory Council- Group of High School Volunteers and fundraisers
- Support recognition strategies for groups supporting the House; ranging from sending daily Thank You emails to supporting major events (e.g. Volunteer Recognition Awards dinner)
- Assist with annual volunteer fundraising events and other organization-related events
Responsibilities
- Manage and execute signature programs for the Volunteer Department (i.e. Days of Service, Meal Program, Donation Pick up and Delivery)
- Develop and facilitate needed activities and projects for volunteers to complete in coordination with the needs of the operations of the House; provide direction and instructions, ensure necessary supplies are ready and available, provide timely and clear communication with multiple teams
- Welcome new and returning volunteer groups to the House; lead tours, encourage and thank them, keep them connected to the mission through knowledge sharing on impact
- Assist with the planning and execution of Volunteer orientations and training days
- Help identify and highlight stories about our volunteers for organization related communications (e.g. Around the House, Volunteer Times Newsletter)
- Support administrative needs for the team including letter writing, database updates, maintaining files, assisting with reports, tracking meals and volunteer and family engagement
- Create flyers as needed to advertise volunteer programs
- Assist with hosting virtual volunteer events (corporate and individual)
- Serve as a resource and support as you work to integrate all volunteer programs into the overall life of the organization
- Serve as a resource for families, guests, staff, volunteers, donors and other community members
Qualifications & Competencies
- Bachelors’ Degree or High School Diploma/GED with four years directly relevant experience
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience in customer services, sales, project management; experience working with volunteers preferred
- Positive and respectful interpersonal skills; ability to remain professional yet compassionate when interacting with families in crisis
- Hospitable demeanor when interacting with peers, guests, donors, volunteers and community at-large
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience Microsoft Office (Excel/Word/PowerPoint); experience database software / data management a plus
- Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills, including managing multiple deadlines, projects or events
- Ability to work independently, make decisions, problem solve, and adhere to priorities with while working in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
- Demonstrated ability to effectively listen, evaluate and react to key members, stakeholders, providers and internal/external clients
- Ability to collaborate and participate as a flexible, responsive team member
- Ability to work some nights, weekends and holidays for events
- Bi-lingual a plus

- This job operates in an office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- The office for this job is located in the same facility where RMH-NY provides temporary accommodations to pediatric patients and their families while the patients are undergoing active medical treatment at area hospitals. For some RMH-NY guests, medical treatment may include radiation therapy. While radiation therapy is never administered at RMH-NY, there is the potential for some radioactive material to be present in guests who have undergone radiation therapy. Based on radiation measurements performed throughout RMH-NY, it is not expected that individuals working at RMH will receive radiation doses that would exceed the general public limit (100 millirem per year).
- The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Noise levels often increase with families and children who have temporary residence in the building as well as guests and musical performers for special events.
- Some weekends and evening hours may be necessary for this job.
