Job description:
The Communications Director will work with the Senator, Chief of Staff, District Director, Legislative staff and Caucus Communications Office to managethe member’s communications operations. This role will be based in Northeast Philadelphia, but some travel to Harrisburg will be required as needed.
The Communications Director’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and execute full communications strategy in coordination with the team
- Create press releases, media advisories and event fliers for district related events
- Website management in conjunction with Caucus Communications
- Social Media management (Facebook, X, Instagram, etc.)
- Regular social stats updates (Facebook, X, Instagram, e-newsletter, etc.)
- Weekly communications plans, refining messaging strategy, content production
- Harrisburg/District Highlights, content compilation and formatting
- Creating graphics with Caucus Communication digital artists
- Creating e-newsletter content for weekly blasts
- Curating news articles that contain topics of interest relating to the 5th District and policy priorities
- Create talking points and speeches when needed
- Create video scripts and content
- Managing unsubscribes and undeliverables from e-newsletter inbox.
- Assist and coordinate teletown and text outreach to constituents in conjunction with the Caucus Services Office
- May assist in drafting constituent correspondence
- Staff Senator at events when needed
- Take photos and videos for content creation
- Assist with other duties, as assigned. Pitch in where needed.
- Role can grow into more responsibility and compensation based on performance
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, such as communications, journalism, English, marketing, or advertising. (or relevant work experience in place of education)
- Relevant work experience: several years of experience in a communications or public relations role at the management level.
- Strong communications skills: the ability to write, edit and distribute content.
- Creativity: The ability to develop strategies and use resources to implement new projects
- Problem-solving skills: The ability to work under pressure and think strategically
- Network: A strong network of contacts
- Must possess a valid driver's license, car insurance, reliable vehicle, current registration and state inspection.
Salary: Up to $60k, commensurate with experience.
