Description/Duties And Responsibilities
This position is responsible for supporting Santa Clarita’s tourism efforts through project management, including budget tracking, program coordination, and marketing material development. This position manages digital and print communications, including social media content, the annual Visitor Guide, and website updates, and manages interactive tools designed to drive tourism engagement. This position also fosters collaboration with community partners and tourism stakeholders, provides support for Tourism Bureau functions, and represents the City at industry events and conferences.
Duties And Responsibilities
Project Management
- Tracks budget functions for multiple tourism accounts
- Coordinates summer- and tourism-related trolley programs
- Works with external partners and tourism staff to create and process room rebate agreements, as-needed contracts, purchase orders, and invoices
- Coordinates creation and distribution of annual tourism rack card and other related marketing pieces
- Collaborates on a weekly events list and bi-monthly e-newsletter, ensuring timely distribution to appropriate recipients
- Collects and compiles marketing data to inform performance reporting and strategy discussions
Social Media
- Develops and maintains a social media content calendar in collaboration with tourism staff
- Monitors comments and messages across all platforms, providing timely and professional responses
- Identifies opportunities that expand reach and engagement on social media
- Contributes to updating and maintaining Visit Santa Clarita accounts, including: Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Pinterest, and Instagram
- Creates engaging content and promotional ideas tailored for digital audiences
- Collects user-generated content for digital and print marketing campaigns
Visitor Guide
- Manages the planning, writing, and editing of the annual Visitor Guide
- Manages deadlines and coordinates timelines with the guide producer and graphic designer
- Works with the guide producer to collect advertising leads and gathers contacts for potential advertisement placements
- Coordinates the procurement process for printing services

- Regularly reviews and updates the VisitSantaClarita.com website
- Updates online tourism events calendar and collaborates with City staff to ensure accuracy
- Writes and publishes web stories and other digital content to highlight tourism-related events and attractions
- Oversees all functions of the digital visitor assistance tool on VisitSantaClarita.com, including responding to user inquiries, updating information as needed, and ensuring accurate, up-to-date content is maintained
Tourism Bureau and Tourism Marketing District
- Provides administrative and logistical support for meetings involving the Tourism Marketing District Board, Tourism Bureau members, and community partners
- Manages all memberships and payments for the Tourism Bureau and actively promotes the bureau to attract new members
- Collaborates with the Tourism Bureau and stakeholders to strengthen community relationships and promote engagement, while working in collaboration with City staff on broader membership retention efforts and strategy
Additional Duties
- Attends annual meeting planner tradeshows and professional conferences to represent the City and promote tourism initiatives
- Provides support and customer service to City staff, partners, and the general public by phone, in-person, and through e-mail communications
- Assists with the planning and execution of tourism-related events
- Organizes, prioritizes, and tracks assignments to ensure projects are completed on time
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Three years of experience performing administrative and technical support work
- Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, marketing, or economic development, or related field is highly desirable
- Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary will be considered
- Experience in hospitality, tourism, and/or marketing is highly desirable
- A valid Class C California driver license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation to carry out job-related functions
Knowledge and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of the principles and practices of economic development, workforce development, and related state and local laws, rules, and regulations
- Knowledge of social media and web-based media
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster and maintain cooperative working relationships with local businesses and organizations
- Ability to assess operations and procedures within the functional area, identify issues, and implement effective solutions
- Ability to independently perform a variety of technical duties, including research, compilation, and report development in support of the program areas
- Demonstrates project management skills with the ability to plan and implement effective programs under general direction and limited supervision, while successfully managing multiple projects of varying nature and scope
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask, work with constant interruptions, and meet time-sensitive deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in-writing

- Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce work that is accurate and complete
- Ability to lift, drag, and push files, paper, and documents weighing up to 25 pounds is required

Compensation includes enrollment in California Public Employees’ Retirement System as a replacement for Social Security plus a competitive benefits package. All appointments are made at step 1 of the salary range unless otherwise authorized by the City Manager.
