As OrangeCat Racing’s marketing manager, you will be responsible for managing and executing a range of marketing activities for the team, including content creation, social media, event management, and website maintenance. You'll be responsible for elevating the OrangeCat Racing brand, keeping content across different vehicles and different content creators (racers, partners, crew members) aligned and effective, and ensuring the local Chicago community is aware of and excited by their hometown team.
OrangeCat Racing is part of a family office called OnDean that channels curiosity and capital into ventures that drive progress, spark adventures, and strengthen the communities we touch. Headquartered in Chicago, we operate as a platform and deploy all our capital – economic, human, industry, and social – to advance our interests across technology, investing, philanthropy, and motorsports.
Besides OrangeCat Racing, OnDean includes two other public-facing organizations: Alta Futures (our impact office) and OnDean Forward (our investment firm). While your role will primarily serve the marketing needs of OrangeCat Racing, at times you’ll have the opportunity to perform similar marketing tasks to those outlined below for these other organizations within the OnDean umbrella.
Your Responsibilities
Your job will include, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Own the team’s day-to-day marketing function. Manage OrangeCat Racing’s CRM and communications cadence. Run point on PR announcements or major events. Work with CMO and outsourced designer on major brand decisions or content contributions. Respond to one-off requests for content approval, sponsorships, marketing opportunities, etc.
- Manage the team’s website and online presence. Continually update and optimize the OrangeCat Racing website. Ensure it’s easy to sign up for our fan newsletter and find events. Work with our outsourced designer on social media updates and continuous monitoring.
- Partner with the local community. Work with local groups on brand activations and event participation. Source and execute on opportunities to promote the team and our events to local fans.
- Be a resource for our technology investments. This role would also help support marketing efforts for Lightfighter, a startup building purpose-built electric motorcycles for the track, and eventually our race support system – our own AI-powered tech that analyzes racing data to make better decisions.
- Support efforts to elevate the sport. Partner with BMW, MotoAmerica, Lightfighter, and other groups to bring more attention to national motorcycle racing overall. Ensure OrangeCat Racing’s content highlights the excitement of the sport beyond our team.
- Collaborate with the OrangeCat Racing teams. Help our racers and crew ensure their public-facing content aligns with the goals and messages of the greater team. Support our racers’ personal brands and goals. Attend 4-5 OrangeCat Racing events outside of Chicago each year.
- Broader platform support, as needed. As a small team, we all jump in enthusiastically to any project that needs our support. The CMO or other leaders may ask for you to take on work outside your core role within reason.
Your Competencies
- Wide marketing experience. Must have some experience (3+ years) across marketing functions, including email communications, content creation, events, and web / digital marketing.
- Passion or interest in motorcycle racing. You don’t need to have worked in motorcycle racing, but we’re looking for someone who can get excited about this work and this team. Ideally, you can “talk the talk” and understand motorcycles / the sport of racing at a high level.
- CRM and marketing automation experience. We’re looking for someone that has used and managed some level of a CRM or marketing automation tool. We use HubSpot and can teach the specific tool, but want someone who could take ownership of the OrangeCat Racing data and lists right away.
- Some experience with basic design and website management tools. We’re able to get outsourced help here, so you don’t need to be the preeminent expert here, but need to be able to make quick updates or simple changes to graphics or our website in-house.
- Strong organizational skills and a focus on detail. We move fast, and this year have two teams racing. You need to be comfortable with a lot being thrown at you, although you’ll have the autonomy to prioritize and focus on what’s most important.
- In-person collaboration and communication skills. You’ll be working with a full team, helping manage freelance marketers, and assisting with in-person events as needed.
Other Role Expectations
- Based in Chicago with the ability to work hybrid
- Ability to travel outside of Chicago when needed, approximately 5 times per year
- Ability to sometimes work evenings or weekends to support team events (will offer flexibility / makeup time based on these needs)
