Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Reporting to the VP Marketing and Communications, the Director of Content will be responsible for creatively sharing RiseBoro’s mission and impact through storytelling and writing. Leveraging the organization’s owned channels – website, newsletter, social media, print and digital collateral, and more – the Director of Content will execute a strategic storytelling plan that supports overall fundraising goals, drives brand awareness, and furthers RiseBoro’s reach across New York City. Specific duties and responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute a refreshed content strategy that reflects all aspects of RiseBoro’s work, including but not limited to our housing portfolio and development work, social services programs, and more.
- Serve as the chief writer and editor within the organization by building relationships with colleagues and service recipients to craft engaging stories that can be amplified across channels.
- Help craft a cohesive narrative about the organization, working with senior leaders and staff to pinpoint the RiseBoro story.
- Oversee a content calendar that guides the organization’s public storytelling.
- Refresh the organization’s website, newsletters, philanthropy collateral, tenant communications, and annual report to better serve users, tell RiseBoro’s story, and raise funds and awareness.
- Support on social media management, including posting, editing, and overall maintenance.
- Manage a roster of freelancers to support storytelling (writers, photographers, videographers, graphic designers).
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES
- 5-7 years of direct storytelling experience for a large, multi-faceted organization.
- Ability to manage a comprehensive portfolio of owned channels to succinctly and effectively advance an organization’s mission and philanthropy goals.
- Experience with key marketing platforms for newsletters, websites, and fundraising.
- Understanding of social services organizations and housing policy preferred.
- Adept at building and maintaining relationships to advance storytelling goals.
- A self-starter with an eye and ear for a story and how to translate that into building brand awareness and raising funds.
- Excellent writer and editor with unmatched attention to detail.
- Willingness to wear many hats, play many roles, and help build a team from the ground up.
- Commitment to RiseBoro’s mission, vision, and values.
- Ability to understand the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities.
- Commitment to work that supports communities who have experienced systemic oppression and bias (e.g. people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice-involved persons, etc.).
EDUCATION And EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Marketing, or professional writing required.
