POSITION SUMMARY
The Development Coordinator at REACH LA plays a vital role in supporting our mission to diversify revenue streams and expand awareness among corporate, nonprofit, and community stakeholders dedicated to health equity and racial justice. Collaborating closely with the Chief Marketing & Communications Officer (CMCO), the Development Coordinator contributes to the creation and execution of REACH LA’s grant writing and fundraising strategies, driving the advancement of our mission and vision.
This role requires exceptional networking and interpersonal skills, outstanding communication abilities, and strong time management capabilities. The Development Coordinator enhances administrative efficiency, fosters organizational growth, secures funding opportunities, maintains positive donor relationships, and upholds the integrity of development processes. A comprehensive understanding of discussions within LGBTQ+, racial justice, and HIV leadership education communities is essential to identify trends and target areas where REACH LA programming can make the most impact.
Key responsibilities include supporting the CMCO in researching, preparing, submitting, and managing grant proposals and reports that align with agency goals and comply with funder guidelines. Managing funder relationships, ensuring compliance with reporting, and supporting special projects are integral to this position. The role seeks a proactive, organized individual with experience in fundraising and networking, capable of inspiring and motivating colleagues while working collaboratively to achieve REACH LA objectives.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the Marketing & Communications Department (Marcomms) in researching, preparing, submitting, and managing grant proposals and reports to aid the agency’s goals and meet funder guidelines.
- Work closely with the CMCO Director of Development & External Affairs with the grant development process for foundation, government, and corporate funding opportunities, including:
- Prepare and organize materials for proposals
- Submit grant applications via paper or online portals, and maintain list of passwords
- Monitoring grant applications submissions and awards
- Maintain a library of grant support documents including resumes, biographies, IRS forms, Board/Staff diversity lists, financial documents, etc.
- Monitor grant applications submissions, awards, and compliance reporting.
- Develop and execute fundraising strategies, including events, annual giving, and community-focused initiatives.
- Coordinate funder relationships and ensure compliance with funder reporting schedules and requirements.
- Research new funding and business development opportunities on a local, state, and federal level.
- Coordinate with other team members on fundraising events and maintain the organization’s donor and prospect information.
- Maintain a master calendar of grants and prospects and all associated files and correspondence; prioritize maintaining the organization’s donor and prospect information so that it is up-to-date and accurate.
- Ensure acknowledgment of funders/investors via website, e-newsletter, and social media.
- Executing thank you letters and facilitate grant contracts/agreements
- Stay up to date on grant-making and philanthropic trends.
· Work closely with the Director of Development & External Affairs to plan, develop, and implement the internal and external public affairs strategies of TE.
· Maintain positive relations with donors and ensure the integrity of development processes.
· Support and help coordinate company site visits.
· Assist with representing REACH LA at events, coalitions, councils, and media opportunities to foster relationship building.
· Support the execution of REACH LA public affairs strategies, including media relations and strategic partnerships.
· Collaborate with national and local partners to advance REACH LA policy priorities.
· Prepare impactful presentations for various audiences, including funders, external government officials, and strategic partners.
· Collaborate with the marcomms department to assist in creation of outward-facing communications media and materials (newsletters, media summaries, press releases, presentation decks, etc.).
· Support the development of REACH LA’s grantmaking and philanthropic efforts.
· Assist in REACH LA grantmaking initiatives to other entities and individuals, including California Community Foundation (CCF), Weingart Foundation, The California Endowment (TCE), Merck & Co., GILEAD, and other giving funds, ensuring strategic alignment with the REACH LA mission, organizational goals and community needs.
· Support main aspects of sponsorships, fiscal sponsorships, and funder relations, maintaining robust and transparent relationships with all donors, sponsors, and funded entities to maximize impact and sustainability
· Ensure that organizations and entities that are funded by REACH LA are following grantmaking requirements and obligations.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION QULIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
· Extensive experience in fundraising, development, public affairs, or a closely related field, with a proven track record of success in grant management, grant writing, strategic partnership development, and media relations
GENERAL SKILL & QULIFICATIONS
· Strong data analysis, program budgeting, project management skills, with an emphasis on outcome measurement
· Extremely organized, reliable and detail-oriented
· Experience supervising and directing the work of others
· Strong time management skills (proven ability to manage complex projects, prioritize tasks, multitask, meet deadlines, work independently, proactively, and reliably)
Knowledge and proficiency with the following:
· G-Suite Applications (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Calendar)
· MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook)
· Operating technology and software necessary for a virtual working environment including Zoom video conferencing and Microsoft Teams
· Airtable; Asana; Adobe; Electronic signature applications (e.g., DocuSign, Adobe)
· Grants management programs preferred (e.g., eRA Commons, GrantSolutions, Login.gov, SPARS, etc.)
· Exemplary interpersonal skills, with ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization as well as external parties and stakeholders
· Exceptional leadership qualities with a demonstrated ability to manage and inspire a diverse team of direct reports and contractors.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to translate complex organizational data into clear and simple messages for a wide range of audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities
· Ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments
· Demonstrated understanding of, commitment to, and prioritization of racial justice, social justice, and accessibility, as well as experience working effectively with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
· An understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved, underrepresented communities, and the social determinants of health
· Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple diverse communities in the consideration of impacts and outcomes of a decision-making process.
