Position Overview:
The Office of Communications, Marketing, and Brand Management seeks a Temporary Part-Time Writer/Editor. The part-time writer and editor will provide dedicated, in-house editorial support to the CMBM department. This role is essential for maintaining the momentum of the college’s high-priority recruitment and branding initiatives, ensuring that all communications are of the highest quality and delivered on schedule.
Responsibilities:
- Content Production and Quality Control: Draft, edit, proofread, and proof check a diverse range of marketing materials, with a primary focus on student recruitment and institutional branding priorities.
- Brand Stewardship: Ensure consistency in TCNJ’s tone, voice, and editorial standards across all deliverables, acting as a final safeguard for brand integrity.
- News and Story Development: Lead "storymining" efforts to identify compelling campus narratives and manage the drafting and editing of news stories for the college website and a digital alumni newsletter; ensure a consistent pipeline of brand-aligned content while allowing the digital content editor to focus more fully on high-level media relations priorities.
- Strategic Client Consultation: As needed, assist in evaluating departmental requests to provide expert guidance on project scope and next steps; provide in-person consultation to help campus partners navigate editorial and brand standards.
- Rapid Response and Execution: Serve as an embedded team member capable of providing quick-turnaround support for high-volume projects and short-notice deadlines.
- In-House Style Expertise: Serve as an internal authority on institutional style and brand nuances, translating complex client needs into professional, polished communications.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Superior editing skills and demonstrated command of grammar, syntax, punctuation, and AP style
- Research and fact-checking capabilities
- Project management skills, particularly the ability to juggle a number of projects and deliver high-quality finished products efficiently and on schedule
Preferred:
- Ability to understand and adopt the college’s voice and tone, ensuring messages are consistent with institutional brand and style
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Experience with higher-ed recruitment, marketing, and development writing preferred
