Digital and Growth Marketing Senior Manager (First Marketing Hire)
Company: Internal Audit Collective (IAC)
Location: Remote (US) — preference for eastern or central time zone
Reports to: Founder (Tom O’Reilly)
Why this role exists: Turn IAC’s content + community into predictable growth: more subscribers, full courses, steady membership renewals, and sponsorship revenue.
About the Internal Audit Collective
The Internal Audit Collective is the leading professional community for Internal Audit, SOX, and Connected Risk professionals.
Our mission is to help forward-thinking audit and risk professionals become more effective through practical education, peer collaboration, and modern tools such as data analytics and AI.
Today, the Collective includes:
- 17,000+ newsletter subscribers
- 1,000+ active community members
- A growing portfolio of training programs, webinars, and industry resources
Over the past year we have also created 100+ pieces of educational content, including blog posts, webinars, and practical resources for Internal Audit and SOX professionals.
The opportunity ahead is to turn this content foundation into a scalable marketing engine that drives subscriber growth, community memberships, and course enrollments.
The Mission
The Growth Marketing Lead will build and operate the marketing engine that fuels the Internal Audit Collective’s growth.
Success in this role means:
- Growing the newsletter from 15,000 to 30,000+ highly relevant subscribers in the next 12 months
- Building a repeatable inbound marketing engine that converts newsletter subscribers into community memberships and course enrollments
- Consistently filling seats for multiple cohort-based training programs held throughout the year
- Helping develop repeatable revenue streams including newsletter sponsorships, job postings, referrals, and team memberships
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys owning the full growth engine — from subscriber acquisition to revenue conversion.
Why This Role Is Unique
Most marketing roles involve managing campaigns inside an already-built system.
This role is different.
You will be responsible for building and operating the growth engine for a rapidly expanding professional community.
The foundation is already strong:
- A highly engaged audience
- A growing member community
- 100+ pieces of high-quality educational content
- A founder who is actively creating content and driving industry conversations
Your role will be to turn these assets into a scalable marketing system that drives consistent subscriber growth, membership conversions, and training program enrollment.
If you enjoy building systems, testing ideas, and seeing the direct impact of your work on growth and revenue, this role offers a rare opportunity to do exactly that.
What You’ll Own
Newsletter Growth & Audience Development
Own the strategy and execution to grow the Internal Audit Collective newsletter into the most valuable information source for Internal Audit and SOX professionals.
This includes:
- Expanding subscriber growth through organic channels, partnerships, webinars, and content distribution
- Improving subscriber engagement and retention
- Ensuring newsletter content consistently drives readers toward deeper engagement with the Collective
Marketing Funnel & Conversion
Build and optimize the marketing funnels that convert newsletter subscribers into:
- Internal Audit Collective members
- Training program participants
- 1:1 conversations with the founder
This includes developing automated nurture flows, promotional campaigns, and conversion sequences that guide subscribers toward the most relevant offerings.
Content Distribution & Repurposing Engine
The Internal Audit Collective already has a strong library of 100+ pieces of educational content.
A major opportunity in this role is activating this content library to drive subscriber growth and revenue.
This includes:
- Repurposing blog posts, webinars, and educational resources into newsletters, lead magnets, and marketing campaigns
- Building systems that consistently distribute high-value content to the right audiences
- Using existing content to support training program promotion and membership growth
Lead Generation Programs
Operate the primary lead generation channels that fuel the Internal Audit Collective’s growth.
These include:
- Webinars and virtual events
- Lead magnets and downloadable resources
- Website conversion optimization
- LinkedIn content distribution
- Partnerships with professional organizations and associations
Revenue Expansion Programs
Help develop marketing programs that create repeatable revenue streams, including:
- Newsletter sponsorships
- Job board listings (“Hot Jobs”)
- Team membership expansion
- Referral and member-driven growth programs
What This Role Is (and Isn’t)
This is the first dedicated marketing hire at the Internal Audit Collective.
Even though the title reflects ownership, this is primarily a builder and operator role - or better said, a "do-er" role.
The founder has already created a strong marketing foundation — including newsletters, webinars, training programs, and a large content library.
What we need is someone who can:
- Take marketing execution off the founder’s plate
- Systematize what already works
- Operate the marketing engine consistently
- Bring new execution ideas and help implement them
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, building systems, and shipping work every week.
This is not a pure strategy role and not a people management role (yet).
The right person will enjoy being both the architect and the builder of the growth engine.
Success Metrics
Success in this role will be measured by:
- Newsletter subscriber growth
- Conversion rates from subscriber to member or course participant
- Training program seat enrollment
- Engagement and performance of email campaigns
- Revenue influenced by inbound marketing programs
What You’ve Done
We are looking for someone who has experience building marketing systems that drive measurable growth.
The ideal candidate is either:
- A Digital Marketing Manager or Senior Manager ready for their first leadership role, or
- Someone who has experience operating as a one-person marketing department, owning execution across email, webinars, content distribution, and growth programs.
Additional experience includes:
- 5–8+ years of experience in digital or growth marketing, ideally within B2B, professional education, or community-driven businesses
- Experience building email marketing and marketing automation programs
- Strong familiarity with HubSpot or similar marketing platforms
- Experience managing webinars, lead magnets, and conversion funnels
- Comfort owning metrics tied to pipeline and revenue outcomes
- The ability to operate independently and execute quickly in a small team environment
Who This Role Is Perfect For
This role is a great fit for someone who:
- Enjoys building marketing systems from the ground up
- Likes owning real growth metrics
- Is comfortable being both strategic and hands-on
- Wants the opportunity to own a marketing engine early in their career
- Enjoys working directly with a founder in a fast-moving environment
Who This Role Is Not For
This role may not be the right fit if you are looking for:
- A large marketing team to manage
- A role focused primarily on high-level strategy
- A highly structured corporate marketing environment
This role requires someone who enjoys operating independently and executing quickly.
How You’ll Work
The Internal Audit Collective is a small, fast-growing organization built around strong ideas, practical education, and a highly engaged professional community.
This role works directly with the founder and operates with a high level of autonomy.
The person in this role will:
- Own the growth marketing function end-to-end
- Operate with an owner mindset
- Identify opportunities and execute quickly
- Regularly review performance metrics and iterate on growth strategies
